Zyhir Hope, OF, Dodgers: Hope went 0-for-2 with a walk in the first game of the 2025 Cactus League season, but he still managed to make a couple of highlight plays. Hope made a catch on a Pablo Aliendo fly out to end the sixth inning where he crashed into the outfield wall. The inning before, he made a diving catch to rob Christian Franklin of a hit. Hope, the Dodgers’ No. 5 prospect, is hoping for a full season of health after he missed much of 2024 with a fractured rib.
Go deeper:
Gage Workman, 3B, Cubs: The Cubs drafted Workman in the MLB portion of the 2024 Rule 5 draft. In his first game, he showed off his lefty power with a fifth-inning two-run home run off lefthander Justin Wrobleski. Workman had earlier singled off a Yoshinobu Yamamoto fastball. He went 2-for-3 overall while also starting a pair of double plays, both off of Teoscar Hernandez ground balls.
Owen Caissie, OF, Cubs: Prior to the Cubs’ spring training opener against the Dodgers, manager Craig Counsell told reporters the team has shut down No. 4 prospect Owen Caissie with lower groin tightness. The Canadian outfielder underwent core muscle surgery this winter. Caissie spent all of 2024 with Triple-A Iowa hitting .278/.375/.472 with 19 home runs. In other Cubs news No. 30 prospect Brett Bateman is set to undergo hamate surgery on his right hand. This will likely delay Bateman’s debut this season until later in the first half.
