Prospect Standouts

Wyatt Langford, OF, Rangers: It’s hard to remember now that Langford began his spring training by going 1-for-10 in his first four games with five strikeouts and only one walk. Since then, he’s been the best hitter in spring training. Langford capped off his spring by going 2-for-3 with two doubles against the Red Sox on Tuesday. Langford was 22-for-53 with four doubles and six home runs in his final 17 games of spring training and finishes his spring hitting .365/.423/.714.

Ryan Pepiot, RHP, Rays: Pepiot had a rough start to his spring training, as he allowed eight hits and six runs in just 2.2 innings in his second outing of the spring. But he’s alleviated any concerns about his ability to handle a rotation spot with his strong finish. On the heels of five one-hit innings in his previous start, Pepiot allowed two hits in six scoreless innings against Detroit on Tuesday. He walked one and struck out eight. Pepiot got five swings-and-misses on his 86-88 mph slider and five more on his 86-88 mph changeup.

Blaze Alexander, IF, D-backs: Alexander went 1-for-2 with his second home run of the spring on Tuesday. That raised his slash line to .400/.431/.655, as he did pretty much everything he could to land a spot on the D-backs Opening Day roster. Arizona has yet to announce its final roster, but Alexander’s strong spring, combined with his ability to capably play all around the infield, has given him a solid shot of making the roster.

Ivan Herrera, C, Cardinals: Herrera was expected to be Willson Contreras’ backup coming into spring training, but he’s solidified his hold on that role with a strong spring. Herrera added to that with a 2-for-2 day on Tuesday that saw him hit a double and his second home run of the spring. Herrera finished spring training with an eight-game hitting streak.
