Will Yanks Add Durbin To 40-Man Roster?

Caleb Durbin, INF, Yankees: Durbin is one of the more interesting roster decisions leading up to the 40-man roster deadline in a few weeks. Durbin stole 21 bags last season in the Fall League, missing the all-time steals record by three. He’s back and inching closer to the record this year with 22 steals. Durbin didn’t steal a base on Monday, but he did go 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and three runs. He finished a triple short of the cycle as he raised his AFL average to .288.

Kala’i Rosario, OF, Twins: Rosario had a big night on Monday reaching base four times with a home run, a stolen base, two runs and four RBIs. Rosario’s home run came in the third inning off of Dodgers lefthander Kelvin Bautista. The ball left the bat at 108.1 mph and traveled 426 feet for Rosario’s third home run of the fall. Rosario missed time due to injury this season but has a nice blend of on-base skills and power that provides some upside.

Carter Jensen, C, Royals: Jensen continues to impress at the plate in the Arizona Fall League. Jensen collected two more hits on Monday and raised his average to .394 in AFL play. Jensen has done it all offensively, getting on base and hitting for average at a high clip. But the questions around his defensive ability came to the surface on Monday as well. Jensen committed two throwing errors, as Mesa baserunners were a perfect 3-for-3 on the day. Whether or not Jensen sticks behind the plate is up for debate, but his bat is impressive enough to potentially work at other positions on the field.

Ryan Birchard, RHP, Brewers: Navigating the offense-friendly run environment in the Arizona Fall League is no easy task for pitchers. But Brewers RHP Ryan Birchard has been strong throughout his AFL tenure and put together another impressive outing on Monday. Birchard went three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and four walks while striking out four. Birchard sits 93-95 mph with plus ride on his four-seam fastball and primarily mixes in a sweeper slider and a curveball.
