Prospect Standouts
Ty Madden, RHP, Tigers: Madden is steadily putting himself on the cusp of the big leagues. The Texas alum took another step toward Detroit on Wednesday when he fanned eight hitters in just three innings. Despite the abbreviated outing, Madden’s strikeout total represented a new season high. He got 10 swings and misses and his fastball touched touched as high as 97 mph. He has 48 strikeouts in 38 innings in 2024 between Double-A and Triple-A.
Eight K's over three innings of one-run ball for Tigers No. 5 prospect Ty Madden today. Pitch count escalated quickly with help from three walks, but still a strong outing after a rough introduction to Triple-A.

Drew Thorpe, RHP, White Sox: Thorpe has already had a well-traveled career. He’s moved from the Yankees to the Padres to the White Sox in the past calendar year, but has settled in nicely at Double-A Birmingham, where he’s part of a monstrous starting rotation chock full of prospects. The changeup savant dealt again on Wednesday, spinning five one-run innings with seven strikeouts and a walk. For the season, Thorpe now has 56 strikeouts against 17 walks in 60 innings. The outing also lowered his ERA to 1.35, the fifth-lowest mark in the minors.
Jackson Ferris, LHP, Dodgers: When the Dodgers dealt Michael Busch to the Cubs, they received two prospects in return. One was outfielder Zyhir Hope, who was one of Los Angeles’ breakout players before getting hurt early in the season. The other was Ferris, a lefty with big-time stuff but also plenty of inconsistencies. Ferris was at his best on Wednesday, when he struck out 10 hitters over five one-run innings. The effort was the first double-digit strikeout game of Ferris’ career, and it also saw him coax 16 swings and misses.
Leonardo Bernal, C, Cardinals: Catcher Leonardo Bernal is one of St. Louis’ finest prospects thanks to standout power at a premium position. On Wednesday, he solidified that reputation with a pair of home runs against Fort Wayne. Bernal’s blasts came in the sixth and eighth innings and gave his team the oomph it needed to erase a three-run deficit (his first homer tied the game) and eventually take the lead en route to a victory over the TinCaps. It was his first multi-homer game since July 23, 2022.
Brice Matthews, SS, Astros: The Astros chose Nebraska alum Brice Matthews in the first round of the 2023 draft and quickly got him to Low-A Fayetteville that summer. He’s moved up to High-A Asheville for his first full pro campaign, and on Wednesday he continued a torrid stretch. On June 1, he popped his first two home runs of the season. In doing so, he collected his first career multi-homer game. On Wednesday, he repeated the feat, popping a pair of longballs against Bowling Green. He now has as many home runs in 2024 as he did in 2023.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Emmanuel Rodriguez, OF, Twins: If you’re reading this, you very likely are already quite familiar with Emmanuel Rodriguez. But it’s worth noting the Twins outfielder took another massive jump yesterday and now ranks among the top 20 prospects in the sport. He can be a bit vexing at times for evaluators as he toes the line between selective and overly passive, but there’s little denying Rodriguez’s power and abundance of supplementary tools.
