Demetrio Crisantes, 2B, D-backs: Crisantes needs season-ending shoulder surgery to correct a posterior labral tear in his left shoulder, the team's farm director Chris Slivka told reporters Wednesday. Sports Illustrated first reported the news. Crisantes, who ranks No. 80 on Baseball America's Top 100, injured his shoulder on a swing during game on May 14 with High-A Hillsboro. The 20-year-old slashed .252/.358/.415 with four homers and more walks (21) than strikeouts (19) through 34 games and he is considered one of the better pure hitting prospects in the lower minors. It's yet another significant shoulder injury to a high-profile D-backs prospect, as Jordan Lawlar (2021) and Druw Jones (2022) underwent similar surgeries.
Ronny Mauricio, INF, Mets: It was a long road to recovery for Mauricio, who missed nearly a year and a half as he recovered from a gruesome knee injury. Finally healthy, Mauricio has been on fire since returning from his rehab. On Wednesday night, Mauricio reached base four times for Triple-A Syracuse, as he went 2-for-2 with a home run and two walks. His home run left the bat at 110.2 mph, Mauricio’s second hard-hit ball in play. Mauricio is 7-for-11 with two home runs and a pair of walks in three games since returning to Syracuse’s lineup. Mauricio will continue to prove his health and build stamina over the coming weeks. Once he returns to full strength, he could be a potential weapon for the Mets down the stretch.
Carson Williams, SS, Rays: It hasn’t been the season that Rays shortstop Carson Williams hoped for up to this point. On Wednesday however, Williams was back to his old tricks as he went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs against Triple-A Worcester. Williams' home run came in the top of the 10th inning with two on, as he broke a 4-4 tie with the three-run shot. It proved to be the game-deciding hit, as Durham outlasted Worcester 7-4 in extras. Williams had four hard-hit balls on the night, a welcomed sign as he looks to raise his .181/.287/.362 line for the season. An athletic shortstop with the ability to stick there long term, Williams' swing-and-miss tendencies have led to concerns around his bat’s long term viability.

Max Anderson, 2B, Tigers: Anderson has enjoyed a dream season in 2025 for Double-A Erie. The Tigers' 2023 second-round pick went 2-for-6 with a double, a home run and four RBIs on Wednesday. Over 35 games with Erie, Anderson is hitting .331/.360/.549 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs. He now leads the Eastern League in hits with 47, while ranking second in batting average and RBIs. The former Nebraska star shows fringe-average plate skills with above-average exit velocities and a high rate of barrel contact. It’s a sluggers profile, but Anderson has yet to optimize for pull side power. Still, it’s a noticeable start for Anderson, who’s been one of the best performers in the Tigers talented farm system.
Joe Whitman, LHP, Giants: After a month of April to forget, Whitman is having a month to remember in May. On Wednesday, Whitman went five innings striking out a career-high 11 batters. Whitman pitched through light rain throughout the start before the weather finally suspended the game in the top of the sixth inning. This was Whitman’s second start this month where he amassed double digit strikeouts. The lefthander looks like he’s settling in nicely in his first taste of Double-A, as he lowered his season ERA to 4.21 across 36.1 innings. Whitman projects as a backend starter with some strikeout upside, and has shown strong command this season.
Robby Snelling, LHP, Marlins: The Robby Snelling revival tour continued on Wednesday in Pensacola, as the Marlins lefty struck out eight over six scoreless innings. Snelling allowed two hits and no walks, needing 85 pitches to get out of the sixth. The Blue Wahoos would go on to allow seven runs between the seventh and eighth blowing the win for Snelling. On the season, Snelling is 2-3 with a 4.03 ERA and 50 strikeouts to 16 walks over 38 innings. Snelling mixes a mid-90s fastball with above-average ride, a wipeout curveball and a changeup, he shows good feel for his three pitch mix and keeps batters off balance on his best days.
Lazaro Montes, OF, Mariners: Montes recaptured the Northwest League home run lead on Wednesday with his ninth home run of the season. He entered the night tied with Blue Jays infield prospect Arjun Nimmala with eight, pushing ahead with the solo blast in the top of the seventh. Montes went 2-for-5 on the night with three walks, and joined Everett teammates Michael Arroyo, Luis Suisbel and Tai Peete in tallying a two-hit game. Montes is hitting .276/.398/.572 with sparkling underlying exit velocity data, including a 106 mph 90th percentile EV. A slugging corner outfielder with some swing and miss but big power and enough plate skills to limit his strikeouts, Montes is one of the more exciting power prospects in the minor leagues at the moment.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.
Dauri Fernandez, SS, Guardians: Fernandez has been on fire in the early days of the Arizona Complex League, where he’s gone 19-for-40 with five doubles, three triples and twice as many walks as strikeouts. He’s already just six behind his extra-base hit total from last year in the Dominican Summer League. After gaining buzz in spring training, Fernandez is one of 10 prospects who carried that momentum into the regular season.
