Thomas White, LHP, Marlins: On Saturday night, White threw the best game of his very young career, striking out 14 Knoxville batters in a game in which he faced just 17 batters over five innings. It’s a level of dominance that seems hard to fully fathom.
The Baseball America statistical database contains every MiLB game going back to 2007 and numerous games from years before that.
In our records, there have only been three MiLB games in Double-A or Triple-A where a younger pitcher struck out 14 or more batters.
Here’s the full Top 10 of the youngest pitchers to strike out 14 or more batters in Double-A or Triple-A.
But that’s not the only way this game was special. White’s 14 strikeouts among 17 batters faced is also the fourth highest strikeout percentage of batters faced in a MiLB game in our records for a pitcher who struck out 12 or more batters.
Only one of White’s outs wasn't a strikeout, and he gave up two singles. He struck out the side in the second, third and fifth innings.
Have a night, Thomas White!

Cody Freeman, 3B, Rangers: Fresh off a brief MLB debut, Freeman went 3-for-3 with three home runs on Sunday in Triple-A. It's been quite a week for Freeman. He got his first MLB hit on Monday, and finished the week with one of the best games of his MiLB career. Freeman used Tacoma's Cheney Stadium to his advantage. All three home runs were pulled down the left field line. None traveled more than 370 feet, and his final home run of the day was a 336-foot blast that was very well placed. Freeman is hitting .317/.367/.519 with 15 home runs for Round Rock.
Boston Baro, 3B, Mets: Baro has had a rough season, but last week was a very good week. He went 4-for-4 on Sunday with his fourth home run of the season and a stolen base. Baro also went 3-for-3 on Friday, as he's raised his batting average by 14 points in the past three games. Baro is hitting .223/.282/.333 overall this year.
Braden Montgomery, OF, White Sox: Montgomery has been promoted to Double-A Birmingham, which is his second promotion of the season. Montgomery hit .260/.348/.445 at High-A Winston-Salem after hitting .304/.393/.493 at Low-A Kannapolis to start the season. The White Sox have been conservative with their assignments for the 2024 first-round pick. Montgomery will become the last of the 11 college hitters picked in the top 20 picks last year to reach Double-A. Four have reached the majors.
Carson Benge, OF, Mets: Benge went 4-for-6 with a pair of home runs on Sunday for Double-A Binghamton and also drew a walk to reach base for a fifth time in the Rumble Ponies' 17-3 thrashing of Reading. Benge has already hit five home runs in 21 Double-A games after hitting four in 60 games at High-A Brooklyn. He has an eight-game hitting streak and is now hitting .350/.458/.588 for Binghamton and .315/.428/.508 overall.
Jeferson Quero, C, Brewers: After missing all but one inning of the 2024 season after he separated his right shoulder diving into first base on a pickoff throw, TQuero has been placed on the injured list with what Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Todd Rosiak reported was a mild left shoulder sprain. Quero is expected to miss close to a month. Quero missed time earlier this season with a hamstring injury. Quero was hitting .259/.333/.362 in 30 games with Triple-A Nashville.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.
John Holobetz, RHP, Red Sox: Although he hasn’t cracked RoboScout’s High-A Top 20 yet, Holobetz has been lights out over his last five starts: 25.2 innings, 31 strikeouts and zero walks. His arsenal includes a low-to-mid-90s fastball, mid-80s slider, curveball and a firm changeup, but it’s the command that’s stood out. While he doesn’t miss a ton of bats, his pitchability and strike-throwing point to a future as a reliable back-end starter.

Prospect news and notes from around baseball…
A Yankees prospect hit two homers Sunday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. No, it wasn’t Spencer Jones. Jesus Rodriguez went 2-for-4, drove in six runs and also stole a base.
Speaking of Jones, the Yankees slugger didn’t appear in any games this weekend because of back spasms.
Phillies utilityman Otto Kemp slugged a pair of homers in a 4-3 loss to the Yankees.
