Kendry Chourio, RHP, Royals: Low-A Columbia took a 1-0 series lead in the first round of the Carolina League playoffs behind Royals pitching prospect Kendry Chourio. The Royals righthander struck out four and walked none in five innings, allowing one run on four hits to Myrtle Beach. Already deploying a mid-90s fastball, the 17-year-old began this season in the Dominican Summer League before advancing to the Arizona Complex League and ultimately the Carolina League for six starts. He’s 2-3, 3.51 with 63 strikeouts to five walks over 51.1 innings this season.
Strong playoff debut from Kendry Chourio tonight 😤

Wei-En Lin, LHP, Athletics: Making only his second career start at the level, A's 19-year-old lefthander Wei-En Lin struck out six batters over 3.1 innings on Thursday for Double-A Midland while allowing just one run, continuing a strong first professional season that has spanned three affiliates. Lin is now 4-5, 3.72 with 117 strikeouts to just 22 walks over 87 innings, the majority split between Low-A Stockton (50 IP) and High-A Lansing (30.1). The A's signed Lin for $1.3 million last June and he's been a revelation, showing impressive command over a four-pitch mix that includes a low-90s fastball, two separate breaking balls and an upper-70s changeup that elicited whiffs nearly 60% of the time in the lower minors. Already ranked No. 17 in the A's system, expect Lin to move up even more over the offseason.
Carlos Lagrange, RHP, Yankees: Double-A Somerset righthander Carlos Lagrange limited Reading to one hit and no runs in six innings while striking out five in a Sept. 11 start. The Patriots won 4-0. Lagrange generated 13 whiffs in 76 pitches and has tossed 11 scoreless innings with 15 strikeouts and three hits allowed in September.

Mikey Romero, SS, Red Sox: Red Sox 2022 first-rounder Mikey Romero homered twice for Triple-A Worcester in a three-hit game at Syracuse. The 21-year-old second baseman took lefthander Brandon Waddell deep in the first inning in a same-side matchup and homered off Kevin Herget in the eighth, hitting the ball to the opposite field. Romero went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored in a 10-1 Worcester win. Romero is batting .234/.283/.504 with nine homers in 36 Triple-A games.
Orelvis Martinez, 2B, Blue Jays: The Blue Jays designated Martinez for assignment on Thursday to open a roster spot for righthanded pitcher Alek Manoah. Once considered a potential option to help bolster the big league lineup entering the season, Martinez instead struggled to a .176/.288/.348 line with just 13 homers and 112 strikeouts through 99 games for Triple-A Buffalo. Lauded for his power as he rose Toronto's system, Martinez ranked as high as No. 51 on Baseball America's Top 100 Prospects list in 2023, but has not shown the same penchant for impact since an 80-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs last June. Martinez ultimately played just one big league game for the Blue Jays. Still, Martinez ranked No. 13 in our latest Blue Jays Top 30 and could represent a buy-low candidate for another organization.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.
Anthony Huezo, OF, Astros: When it comes to getting to his power in games, very few minor leaguers or teenagers are Huezo’s peers. Though he’s currently unranked on the Astros’ Top 30 prospects list entering the offseason, Huezo is showing power over the final few months of the season that’s worth noting and is likely to jump into the middle of the Houston list heading into 2026. Geoff Pontes explains how Huezo has gone from obscurity to one of Houston’s biggest breakout prospects in 2025, exclusively for Baseball America subscribers.
