Prospect Standouts

Robert Calaz, OF, Rockies: Rockies prospect Robert Calaz was one of Colorado's best prospects in 2023 in the Dominican Summer League. Now, he's one of their best prospects period. The powerful outfielder put together another stellar game on Thursday, going 3-for-5 with a home run and a walk in his team's slugfest, walk-off win over the Angels. Calaz now has three home runs and 12 RBIs on the young season.

Trevor Harrison, RHP, Rays: Rays 2023 fifth-rounder Trevor Harrison has had an excellent beginning to his pro career, including his latest gem on Thursday against his counterparts from the Orioles. He fired five one-hit shutout innings with seven strikeouts and no walks before turning the ball over to the bullpen. The outing doubled his season strikeout total and lowered his ERA to 2.84 over 12.2 innings.

Michael McGreevy, RHP, Cardinals: Cardinals No. 14 prospect Michael McGreevy muzzled Durham for eight outstanding innings on Thursday while striking out 11 hitters and garnering 23 swings and misses, the most by any pitcher in the minor leagues. The only run he allowed came on a wild pitch which allowed Ronny Simon to scamper home from third. The outing was McGreevy's first as a professional with double-digit strikeouts and his third career complete game.

Trevor Martin, RHP, Rays: Rays 2022 third-round pick Trevor Martin put together a career night in his outing against Winston-Salem on Thursday night. The Oklahoma State product punched out 11 Dash hitters over 6.2 innings while allowing no earned runs. The effort established a new high-water mark for Martin, whose only other double-digit strikeout game came on July 21, 2023, when he fanned 10 Delmarva hitters.

Alexander Canario, OF, Cubs: Cubs prospect Alexander Canario has big-time power. Of that, there is little doubt. He proved it again on Thursday with a two-homer night at Triple-A Iowa. The blasts were his fifth and sixth of the year, and each left the bat with exit velocities of better than 108 mph.

George Lombard, SS, Yankees: Yankees 2023 first-rounder George Lombard Jr. was one of the many prospects who caught the eye of evaluators during spring training. He’s started his first full professional season on a somewhat uneven note, but on Thursday he put together an excellent performance. Facing Jupiter, Lombard went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, helping his Tarpons club down the Hammerheads. He’d been in a particular funk all month long, and his four hits on Thursday were one more than he’d had in the previous eight games combined.

Red Sox prospect adds more power in 2024

Want to get ahead? Each day we’ll surface one prospect from recent Baseball America coverage who could be on the rise.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day

Kristian Campbell, 2B/OF, Red Sox: Campbell has been among the biggest breakouts of the 2024 seasons so far. Formerly a contact-driven hitter in college at Georgia Tech, Campbell added bat speed over the offseason and reinvented himself as a hitter. There is still some swing and miss, but his exit velocity data is up by a significant margin this season. Geoff Pontes dove into Campbell’s data yesterday and identified 10 hitters doing a great job blending approach and power so far in 2024.

Logan Evans is now a Top 100 Prospect. Check out his spring training whiff reel below.
