Scouting Caleb Bonemer After Multiple Live Looks
Plus: Nationals, Dodgers and Orioles hitters all produce superb Wednesday performances.
The Baseball America Prospect Report is a free daily morning newsletter. Please consider helping to spread the word by forwarding to your friends and helping us grow the BA community!
Eduardo Quintero, OF, Dodgers: Quintero has struggled to begin the season with High-A Great Lakes and entered Wednesday on a 1-for-23 skid. For at least one night, however, Quintero turned it around, going 2-for-4 along with a three-run homer off Dayton starter JeanPierre Ortiz. The No. 15 prospect in baseball, Quintero is extremely talented with a well-rounded collection of tools. His early-season struggles in a tough Midwest League hitting environment are not a cause for concern.
Ike Irish, 1B/OF, Orioles: Irish has enjoyed 2026. He was one of the hottest names on the backfields this spring and has kept that momentum rolling. Irish hit his second home run of the season on Wednesday and is hitting .321/.387/.607 through seven games with High-A Frederick. Irish is showing plus in-game power with advanced hitting ability. Newly added to the Top 100, Irish could ascend the list throughout the season as he shows his advanced hitting ability.
Caleb Bonemer, SS, White Sox: Bonemer is on a scorcher. Chicago's No. 2 prospect homered for the fourth time in 11 games on Wednesday for High-A Winston-Salem and ran his OPS to 1.218. Bonemer has now homered in consecutive games to open Winston-Salem’s series against Asheville. Bonemer ranks 23rd on Baseball America's Top 100 and could keep moving up the list with continued strong play and several coming graduations.
Devin Fitz-Gerald, SS/2B, Nationals: The Nationals’ new front office was aggressive in acquiring talented prospects to rebuild their system. A few of the names were high-upside lottery tickets potentially undervalued by the public. Fitz-Gerald, acquired in the MacKenzie Gore trade, is one example. Fitz-Gerald was perfect at the plate on Wednesday for High-A Wilmington as he reached base four times with a home run and three walks. Fitz-Gerald has an advanced set of plate skills and sneaky power. He's a name to follow this season as his advanced hitting ability could see him rise up rankings quickly.
Rainiel Rodriguez, C, Cardinals: Rodriguez is one of the most exciting hitting talents in the lower minors. On Wednesday, he showed why evaluators are so enamored with his bat. Rodriguez tripled in the first game of a doubleheader for High-A Peoria, then followed with three doubles in the second game. Rodriguez had a knack for finding the barrel and has seen time at catcher and first base this season.
Emil Morales, SS, Dodgers: While it may be with a new affiliate, Dodgers 19-year-old shortstop Emil Morales has picked up where he left off in Low-A. He bopped his first two homers of the season on Wednesday for Ontario and has a 1.026 OPS through nine games. Morales, who ranks ninth in the Dodgers’ system, hit .339/.420/.548 over 30 games with Low-A Rancho Cucamonga to end 2025.
Editor’s Picks
Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.
Axiel Plaz, 1B/C, Pirates: Plaz has been on fire to begin the season with High-A Greensboro. The Pirates' No. 20 prospect reached base four times Wednesday with a pair of doubles, a single and a walk. Plaz drove in three of Greensboro’s 15 runs and scored another three himself. The 20-year-old is now hitting .382/.475/.676 through nine games. He has long had some of the best raw power in Pittsburgh's system and it's showing up in the early going. He'll need to really hit to make it as an everyday big leaguer given his questionable defensive profile as he rotates at catcher, first base and DH.
