Ethan Salas, C, Padres: Salas will remain sidelined until July after a CT scan revealed a stress reaction in his back, general manager AJ Preller told reporters Monday night. Salas, who turns 19 on June 1, had not played in a game since April 17. It's the latest setback in a rough start to the season for MLB's No. 47 prospect, who hit just .188/.325/.219 through 10 games with Double-A San Antonio and is coming off a 2024 season where he posted just a .599 OPS with High-A Fort Wayne. Salas was one of seven prospects in our May Top 100 update facing concerns early on this season.

Moisès Ballesteros, C, Cubs: With Ian Happ headed to the injured list, the Cubs are expected to call up Ballesteros on Tuesday to fill his spot, according to Bruce Levine of 670 The Score. The 21-year-old catcher entered the season as one of the youngest players in Triple-A but has done nothing but rake so far to the tune of a .368/.420/.522 line for Triple-A Iowa. The hot start helped Ballesteros jump to No. 37 in our latest Top 100, and he also ranks first among RoboScout's Triple-A hitters so far this season. Between his bat-to-ball skills and ability to handle premium velocity, Ballesteros has the hallmarks to become a productive big league hitter for a long time, although the 5-foot-8 catcher has long faced questions about his defense. He'll likely assume the bulk of Chicago's DH duties for the time being with Carson Kelly and Miguel Amaya both on the roster and off to productive starts to the season.

Joswa Lugo, SS, Angels: Lugo went 1-for-4 and connected for his first home run in a domestic minor league game on May 12 in the Arizona Complex League. The 18-year-old has been swinging a hot bat in Rookie ball, going 13-for-30 (.433) with three doubles, a homer and just four strikeouts through his first seven games. Lugo signed out of the Dominican Republic last year and stood out in the Dominican Summer League in his pro debut.

Alejandro Osuna, OF, Rangers: The Rangers are promoting Osuna to Triple-A Round Rock. The 22-year-old center fielder reached Double-A in a breakout 2024 season, then hit well in the Arizona Fall League and starred again in spring training. Now, after 31 games at Double-A Frisco, he's moving up to Triple-A. Osuna is a 5-foot-9 lefthanded batter who hit .284/.363/.409 with two home runs and seven stolen bases in his time in the Texas League this season.

Coby Mayo, 3B, Orioles: The Orioles optioned Mayo to Triple-A Norfolk on May 9 when Tyler O'Neill returned from the injured list. The 23-year-old Mayo struggled on both sides of the ball in a brief big league look this spring. In four games for Baltimore, he went 1-for-12 with a walk and six strikeouts, continuing his struggles from last season. In two small samples in MLB, Mayo is batting .094/.186/.094 with zero extra-base hits and a 48% strikeout rate in 21 total games. His erratic arm at third base—he made two throwing errors in one game—also has been an issue. Mayo needs an extended look in MLB—with Baltimore or elsewhere—to see if he can sink or swim as a first baseman/DH. He owns a career .903 OPS across 182 Triple-A games.

Nate Dohm, Raimon Gomez & Matt Allan, RHP, Mets: High-A Brooklyn begins a six-game home series against Winston-Salem today. The Cyclones will have three new righthanders—Nate Dohm, Raimon Gomez and Matt Allan—at their disposal when facing the Dash. All three were promoted from Low-A St. Lucie.

The Mets drafted Dohm in the third round last year out of Mississippi State. Making his pro debut this spring, he posted a 3.18 ERA in 28.1 innings, striking out 34 and walking 10 while allowing one home run. Gomez and Allan are back this season after rehabbing from elbow surgery. Gomez had Tommy John surgery in early 2023 and has gained notice this year for throwing a 104.5 mph fastball in a game for St. Lucie. He has struck out 20 in 13 innings, while making appearances of no more than 49 pitches or three innings. Allan was a touted prep pitching prospect in the 2019 draft who fell to the third round and had not pitched in an official minor league game since August of his draft year. Allan, still just 24, has had three major elbow surgeries since 2021, the latest being a Tommy John revision surgery in early 2023.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day

Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.

Jacob Reimer, 3B, Mets: Fresh off a nod as the South Atlantic League player of the month in April, High-A Brooklyn third baseman Jacob Reimer keeps on mashing in May. The 21-year-old Mets prospect enters play on May 13 with a 198 wRC+ that leads all full-season minor leaguers with at least 100 plate appearances. Reimer owns a 1.010 OPS at home in pitcher-friendly Maimonides Park and a 1.120 OPS on the road. His most recent road trip took him to hitter-friendly Asheville, and he responded by going 6-for-16 (.375) with two doubles, a homer, four walks and four strikeouts in five games. Drafted as a shortstop, Reimer has played primarily third base in pro ball but has seen more time at first base lately with Brooklyn.
