Edgar Montero, SS, Athletics: On Sunday, Montero was one of the stars of the Dominican Summer League's annual all-star game. He finished the game with a pair of doubles—one pulled and one to the opposite field—before getting the rest of the day off. The league' regular season resumed on Monday, and it was apparent Montero was still riding a hot streak. The 18-year-old opened the second half by crushing a pair of home runs in his team's win over Cubs Red. Montero also singled and walked. He has nine home runs on the year and already ranks among the Top 30 Prospects in the A’s system.

Josuar Gonzalez, SS, Giants: As the only DSL prospect currently in Baseball America's Top 100, there's already a lot cachet behind Giants prospect Josuar Gonzalez's name. There's zero doubt that he will stick at shortstop and be a standout defender at the position. Now, the bat is starting to catch up. Gonzalez hit his first pro home run on Friday, the day before the all-star break. On Monday, he did it again. Facing Pirates Black, Gonzalez went 1-for-2 with the longball and added three walks and three runs scored.

Luis Cova, OF, Marlins: Two Januarys ago, Cova was the catch of the day in the Marlins' international signing class. His first season in the DSL was only OK. Now, repeating the league, he's turned on the jets a bit. The latest example came on Monday, when the 18-year-old outfielder slammed a pair of home runs in his team's win over the Rangers Blue squad. Cova also singled, walked and stole a bag—his 22nd of the year—in the victory.

Troy Melton, RHP, Tigers: It's good to be a Tigers fan right about now. The big league team has the best record in the American League. Their farm system—fronted by standout position players like Kevin McGonigle, Max Clark and Josue Briceño—is one of the best in the sport. Now, a piece of that farm system is heading to the major leagues. It was reported on Monday that Melton, whom Detroit chose in the fourth round of the 2022 draft, was getting his first callup. He’s expected to make his big league debut on Wednesday. This season with Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo, Melton is 2-3, 2.99 with 101 strikeouts in 75.1 innings.

Brandyn Garcia, LHP, Mariners: It's no secret that Seattle is one of the sport's premier pitching powerhouses. One look at their rotation will tell that story in short order. Their farm system—one of the best in the game—is bursting with reinforcements, too. Now, one of those players, lefty Brandyn Garcia, will get his chance. Garcia, a 25-year-old alum of Texas A&M, will work out of the bullpen. He got into action Monday but allowed four hits and two runs (one earned) over one inning of work. He's been effective all year, but that's especially true when facing fellow southpaws. Same-side hitters have produced a batting average of just .204 off of him, and he's struck out 20 against just six walks against them as well.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day

Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.

Kendry Chourio, RHP, Royals: Chourio was one of the most dominant arms in the Dominican Summer League this year, but he was notably absent from this weekend’s all-star game—and for good reason. At just 17, he had already proven his case with a dominant showing: 22 strikeouts and just one walk over 17.2 innings across five starts. His reward? A promotion to the Arizona Complex League, where he’s already begun flashing the same electric stuff in his first two stateside outings. Chourio has 12 strikeouts in seven innings and has not issued a walk. His arsenal features a promising three-pitch mix, led by a fastball that touches 96 mph. His curveball offers tight, late break, and his advanced changeup plays well beyond his years. With that arsenal, he projects as a high-upside starter capable of missing plenty of bats as he climbs the ladder.
