Prospect Standouts
Colt Keith, 2B, Tigers: Keith went 3-for-4 with a double on Monday. It was the second big day in the past week for Keith, and it’s much needed for him, as those are the first two big games he’s had in a very unimpressive start to his MLB career. Keith went 4-for-5 on May 17 and he’s hitting .350 in May. He raised his averages to .214/.273/.244. What’s been surprising is how little power he’s shown. That double was only his fourth of the year in 40 games played, and he has no triples or home runs.
Walker Martin, SS, Giants: The Giants’ 2023 second-round pick didn’t get into a game last year and the Giants assigned Martin to the Arizona Complex League, so his pro debut was further delayed. But Martin finally got into a game on Monday. Martin hit a ground-rule double in his first pro at-bat. He struck out looking in his second at-bat and then was pulled for a pinch hitter.
Cade Cavalli, RHP, Nationals: For the first time since he blew out his elbow in spring training in 2023, Cavalli made an appearance in a rehab assignment. Cavalli struck out five in 2.2 scoreless innings with the Florida Complex League Nationals. Cavalli allowed one hit and walked one. His lone hit allowed was actually given up to a big leaguer, as Jose Abreu doubled.
Walker Jenkins, OF, Twins: Jenkins has missed almost the entire 2024 season with a hamstring injury. He began the road back to Low-A Fort Myers by playing in Fort Myers, but with the rookie-level Florida Complex League Twins. Jenkins went 0-for-4 in the first day of the rehab assignment. He drew a walk and scored a run. Jenkins served as a DH.
Brooks Lee, SS, Twins: Lee went on the injured list on March 29 with a back injury. Now a little less than two months later, Lee returned to action, going 0-for-4 as the leadoff hitter for the Florida Complex League Twins. He was pulled from the game for a defensive replacement after flying out in the fifth inning.
Colt Emerson, SS, Mariners: Mariners’ shortstop Colt Emerson, the No. 38 prospect on the current Baseball America Top 100 Prospects, will miss four to six weeks after fracturing a bone in his foot with a foul ball. Emerson left Thursday’s game and has not played since. The news was relayed to multiple Mariners’ reporters including Daniel Kramer and Ryan Divish.
Gary Gill Hill Remains On The Rise
Want to get ahead? Each day we’ll surface one prospect from recent Baseball America coverage who could be on the rise.
Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Gary Gill Hill, RHP, Rays: In 2023, Gill Hill was an interesting pitcher with projection and decent present stuff. In 2024, his entire mix has taken a huge jump forward and his body still has room for more strength. The New York prep product has added plenty of heat to his fastballs and has added a cutter and re-shaped his breaking ball. The result is one of the highest risers in Tampa Bay’s system and a pitcher who can get hitters to beat the ball into the ground early and make them chase pitches when necessary.
