Red Sox Trio Gets Promotion To Triple-A
Plus: Junior Caminero Hits His Hardest HR Of The Year
The Red Sox top trio of Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony and Kyle Teel get the call to Triple-A Worcester. The Guardians’ Parker Messick and the Nationals’ Travis Sykora keep dominating. And Eli Ben-Porat looks some recent Triple-A arrivals who are standing out.
Prospect Standouts
Roman Anthony, OF, Red Sox: On the day that he and two of his teammates got the call to Triple-A Worcester, Anthony wrapped up his time at Double-A Portland by hitting his 15th home run of the season. Anthony also doubled and drew a walk. He finished his time as a SeaDog hitting .269/.367/.489.
Junior Caminero, 3B, Rays: Caminero was 3-for-4 with a home run on Sunday. It was Caminero’s 13th home run for the Bulls this season in 53 games, to go with the three he hit in the Florida Complex League while rehabbing from his leg injury. Caminero is now hitting .274/.337/.521 overall this season. Caminero’s home run was a 112.4 mph line drive blast to right field. It was Caminero’s hardest-hit home run of the season, but it wasn’t close to his hardest hit ball of the season. Caminero sports the third-best average exit velocity in Triple-A (93.3 mph). He has a 117 mph single and a 116 mph double this season.
Parker Messick, LHP, Guardians: Messick lowered his Eastern League ERA to 1.83 with six scoreless innings against Reading. Messick have not allowed a run in five of his nine Double-A outings. The only hit Messick allowed was an Erick Brito single, and he then picked Brito off first base. The only actual trouble he ran into was in the second when he walked a batter and hit another. But he struck out Ethan Wilson and induced a ground out from Brito to thwart that threat. Messick is 8-6, 2.93 overall this year with a .220 opponents average and 134 strikeouts and 34 walks in 107.1 innings.
Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony and Kyle Teel, Red Sox: The Red Sox promoted their top three prospects to Triple-A Worcester following Double-A Portland’s game on Sunday. First reported by the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier, the Red Sox trio of prospects dubbed “the big three” all participated in this year’s Futures Game and will join the Woo-Sox on Tuesday for their home series against Lehigh Valley. The talented trio all produced strong numbers this season in Portland and rank among the top 50 prospects in the game. Once step away from joining the Red Sox major league roster, the trio is expected to finish the season with Worcester with a likely mid-2025 debut for all three.
Gage Workman, 3B, Tigers: Workman had a day to remember, as he homered three times and drove in seven in a 19-1 demolition of New Hampshire. It is the first three home run game of Workman’s pro career. Workman’s career has somewhat stalled since he reached Double-A Erie in 2022, but he is having the best season of his pro career. He’s hitting .260/.351/.435.
Travis Sykora, RHP, Nationals: For a second consecutive start, Low-A Fredericksburg’s Travis Sykora walked off the mound with a no-hitter. This time, the F-Nats bullpen finished the job. Sykora threw six perfect innings, Angel Roman couldn’t keep the perfect game intact, but he did throw two hitless innings. Merrick Baldo walked the first batter he faced in the ninth (Miguel Briceno), and a pair of fielder’s choices and a wild pitch allowed Briceno to score. But after walking another batter, Baldo struck out the final two batters he faced to finish the no-hitter on Friday night. Sykora has now retired the last 31 batters he’s faced as he was perfect for the final four innings of his five-inning hitless start on Aug. 2 in addition to his six perfect innings on Aug. 9.
Christian Moore, 2B, Angels: The Angels decision to push Moore nearly straight to Double-A Rocket City has paid off handsomely. Now the only question seems to be whether the Southern League doesn’t provide enough of a challenge for the team’s 2024 first-round pick. Moore went 4-for-4 with two home runs on Friday night, which slightly one-upped his 4-for-5, two home run game on Wednesday. Moore now has three four-hit games in just seven pro games. He’s hitting .548/.576/1.194 with two doubles, six home runs, two walks and four strikeouts.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
David Sandlin, RHP, Red Sox: Sandlin sits at 96 mph and touches 100 mph, which makes him one of the few Red Sox’ pitchers that pitches primarily off of his four-seam fastball. When you’re fastball’s this good, that makes plenty of sense. Dylan White highlighted him as part of this week’s RoboScout breakdown of all levels of the minor leagues.
Something to look forward to…
