Promotions, RoboScout Top Prospects After Busy Weekend

Plus: Walker Jenkins exits Sunday's game early with a shoulder injury.

Anthony Eyanson, RHP, Red Sox: It took just five starts for Eyanson to prove he was too good for High-A. Eyanson was promoted to Double-A Portland on Sunday after five excellent starts with High-A Greenville. He finally issued walks in his most recent start—three, in fact—but still finished his High-A stint at 0-0, 0.44 with seven hits allowed, one run, three walks and 34 strikeouts over 20.1 innings. Opponents hit just .104 against him.

Braden Montgomery, OF, White Sox: After finishing last season at Double-A Birmingham, the White Sox returned Montgomery there to open 2026 with the hopes he'd get off to a hot start, forcing a quick promotion to Triple-A Charlotte. Mission accomplished. Chicago promoted Montgomery to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday after he hit .313/.429/.606 with six home runs in 27 games. In a 34-game stint at Double-A last year, he walked 10.4% and struck out 28.7% of the time. This season, he’s improved to a 16.7% walk rate and a 25.4% strikeout rate.

Eyanson and Montgomery aren’t the only notable players on the move:

Spencer Jones, OF, Yankees: For the second time this week, Jones homered twice. But this time, it was impressive even by Jones' lofty power standards. Jones' 117.4 mph, 422-foot home run in the first inning off Jose Berrios was the second-hardest hit home run in Triple-A this year and the third-hardest of the past five seasons in Triple-A.

Emmanuel Rodriguez (118.3, 2026), Bobby Seymour (117.9, 2025), Elly De La Cruz (117.7, 2023) are the only players to hit a home run harder in Triple-A since 2022.

Jones wasn't done. In the fourth inning, he hit a 111.1 mph, 401-foot grand slam to straight center field. He is now hitting .261/.366/.586 this year with 10 home runs in 31 games.

Walker Jenkins, OF, Twins: Jenkins made an excellent catch in the right-center field gap to end the sixth inning Sunday for Triple-A St. Paul, but he paid the price. After snagging Jonathan Long’s line drive, Jenkins crashed into the wall and immediately went to the ground. He exited the game favoring his left shoulder. Jenkins is hitting .256/.396/.389 with two home runs and five stolen bases in 25 games this season.

Trey Gibson, RHP, Orioles: Gibson wasn't overwhelming in his MLB debut, but he also wasn't overwhelmed.

Gibson sat at 93-96 mph with his sinker and four-seamer and, as is his typical approach, he kept hitters off balance with a deep mix. He used five pitches, getting three whiffs with his slider. He allowed four hits, three runs (all earned), two walks and two strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

Gibson gave up a home run to Ben Rice in the first inning. He worked around a Ryan McMahon double in the second, but gave up a two-run home run to Aaron Judge in the third. He worked a quick fourth inning but was pulled after walking Aaron Judge with two outs in the fifth inning. That run ended up being charged to him when Cody Bellinger drove Judge in off reliever Grant Wolfram.

Jesús Made, SS, Brewers: After a relatively quiet week for the best prospect still in the minors, Made hit his third home run of the season for Double-A Biloxi with a blistering line drive he yanked right down the left field line to hit the foul pole. Made is now hitting .282/.375/.464 this season. Most impressively, the 18-year-old has almost as many walks (17) as strikeouts (19).

Quentin Young, SS, Twins: Young has found the Low-A Florida State League challenging so far, but on Sunday he showed signs of turning a corner. Young went 4-for-4 with a double, his third multi-hit game of the week. He’s raised his batting average by 54 points over that span and is now hitting .220/.291/.319. Strikeouts are his big issue, with a 47.6% strikeout rate.

Kevin Defrank, RHP, Marlins: Defrank, who was set to make his stateside debut this spring in the Florida Complex League, is out indefinitely with a right biceps injury, a source told Baseball America. Defrank posted to his Instagram that he will not pitch again this season. The 17-year-old was one of the FCL's most anticipated prospects this season and ranks sixth in the Marlins' system. The 6-foot-5 righthander's present size and velocity has captivated evaluators and he was one of the prospects who impressed scouts on the backfields this spring. In 2025, Defrank went 0-1, 3.19 with 34 strikeouts in 31 innings in the Dominican Summer League.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day

Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.

Austin Overn, OF, Rays: Overn went 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs and three RBIs on Sunday for his best game of the season with Double-A Montgomery. The speedy Overn, who was acquired in the offseason Shane Baz trade with the Orioles, has been a terror on the base paths. He has 21 steals in just 24 games, but this was his third and fourth home runs of the season. Overn is hitting .277/.340/.479 this season.
