Prospect Standouts
Jean Cabrera, RHP, Phillies: The Phillies have lots of interesting pitching on the farm, but Cabrera might be among the most exciting. Cabrera struck out 14 batters in a losing effort Wednesday. He allowed just five baserunners to reach over 6.1 innings. Unfortunately, luck was not on his side, as four of those five batters scored. Cabrera’s 14 strikeouts were a career-high and marked his second outing with double-digit strikeouts this year. Cabrera mixes two fastball shapes in a four-seam and sinker sitting 92-94 mph, his signature 82-83 mph sweeper slider and a changeup.
"14 for Jean!"

Kristian Campbell, 2B/OF, Red Sox: The Red Sox might have a fourth member to add to their “Big Three” prospects in Portland. Campbell, a 2023 fourth-rounder, continues to impress. He’s hitting .438/.514/.656 over eight games since Boston promoted him to Double-A last week while batting fourth behind Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer and Kyle Teel. Campbell first roped a 108.9 mph line drive off Lachlan Wells in the first inning. His second double came off Wells in the fifth inning and was clocked at 96 mph off the bat. Campbell is showing a much-improved power profile in 2024 after working with Red Sox player development to add bat speed.
Roman Anthony, OF, Red Sox: After an up and down first month of the season, Anthony has been on fire the last month and even more so of late. Unfortunately in Anthony’s first at-bat Wednesday he was drilled on the elbow by an 88 mph sinker and subsequently removed from the game. Per the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier, Anthony’s elbow was just sore, and the removal from the game was precautionary.
Agustin Ramirez, C, Yankees: Ramirez has been one of the best hitters in the Eastern League over the first part of the season. While the slugging Yankees catching prospect didn’t homer Wednesday, he still collected four hits. Ramirez hit a double and three singles with three of the four hits coming on hard-hit batted ball events. In fact, Ramirez had four hard-hit batted ball events on Wednesday with a 109.9 mph line drive, a 104.2 mph flyout, a 97.2 mph double and a 96 mph single. Ramirez has an outlier combination of hit and power.
Brad Lord, RHP, Nationals: Lord’s dream season continued on Wednesday. Over 12 starts, the Nationals righthander is 7-1 with a 1.46 ERA and 71 strikeouts over 67 innings. On Wednesday, Lord struck out 10 Bowie batters on his way to his seventh victory of the season. Lord generated 19 swinging strikes in the effort with a majority of the whiffs coming against his sinker. Lord mixes a low-90s sinker, a low-80s slider, a curveball and a changeup.
Digging into Complex League Statcast data
Want to get ahead? Each day we’ll surface one prospect from recent Baseball America coverage who could be on the rise.
Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Eduardo Quintero, OF, Dodgers: We’ve reached a point where almost every year you can expect to find at least one future Top 100 prospect on the Dodgers’ Arizona Complex League roster. While there are several worthy candidates in 2024, Quintero might be the most impressive. Over his first 26 games, the 18-year-old is hitting .337/.459/.506. His contact skills, in particular, are impressive, as he only misses on 12.3% of pitches he swings at in the zone and rarely expands with a 16.6% chase rate. Combine that with a .381 xwOBAcon, 106.6 mph 90th percentile exit velocity and centerfield profile, and you have one of the most exciting players not in full-season play as of yet. Quintero has the look of a true analytical superstar, and he’s one of 10 Complex League standouts Geoff Pontes examined this week exclusively for Baseball America subscribers.
In case you missed it…
Josh Norris captured a great swing from Quintero last week in Arizona.
Absolutely spellbinding cut from #Dodgers prospect Eduardo Quintero for a hard liner to center.
