Phillies RHP Continues To Perform In The Lower Minors
Plus: A pair of AL Central infielders with strong hit tools catch our attention on Wednesday.
Prospect Wire, powered by Louisville Slugger, is Baseball America’s new free home for in-season daily news, analysis and filterable season stats for every player ranked in a Top 30. Check that out here.
Prospect Standouts
Spencer Giesting, LHP, D-backs: After a tremendous start to the season with High-A Hillsboro, Giesting got the bump to Double-A before the week. He made his Double-A debut on Wednesday and earned the win for Amarillo. Giesting went 6.2 innings allowing four runs (two earned), on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Giesting is a lefty with a prototypical starter’s build and a horizontal arm angle that keeps hitters off balance. He mixes a low-90s four-seamer, an upper-80s cutter, a low-80s sweeper, an upper-70s two-plane curveball and a split-change. Giesting has a deep repertoire that keeps opposing hitters off balance.
Jean Cabrera, RHP, Phillies: Cabrera has been one of the better performing pitching prospects in the minors this season, and that continued on Wednesday. Cabrera pitched six scoreless frames, allowing five hits and three walks while walking eight. Cabrera sits 94-95 mph mixing a low-80s sweeper and a plus changeup. Cabrera’s changeup has racked up swings and misses this season with a 28.1% swinging strike rate.
Phillies RHP Jean Cabrera was at it again.
He generated 22 swings and misses 😳
That's the most in High-A so far tonight.
Cabrera struck out eight over six scoreless innings and has 22 K's in his last 12.1 IP.

Brooks Lee, SS, Twins: The Twins’ No. 3 prospect, Lee made his season debut with the Triple-A St. Paul on June 5 after two months on the injury list. Since then, Lee has hit .340/.380/.553 with six extra-base hits. Lee went 3-for-5 with three doubles on Wednesday, scoring twice and driving in two. Lee shows advanced bat-to-ball skills and approach with enough power to rise above an empty average tag.
Juaron Watts-Brown, RHP, Blue Jays: The Blue Jays’ 2023 third-round pick, Watts-Brown continued his strong month of June on Wednesday. The righthander tossed six innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out nine. Watts-Brown sat 93-94 mph, touching 95 mph at peak mixing a slider, cutter, changeup and curveball. Watts-Brown looks ready for a potential promotion to High-A Vancouver in the next few weeks.
Kevin McGonigle, 2B, Tigers: McGonigle tallied two hits Wednesday including a triple to leadoff the top of the third inning. The Tigers’ No. 3 prospect scored two runs and drive in a pair of RBIs as the Flying Tigers scored 10 runs in a blowout win. McGonigle is hitting .325/.398/.469 on the season, but has cooled off slightly in June. McGonigle is one of the more skilled hitters in the lower minors showing potential for elite contact skills and high batting average upside.
Potential Top Pick In 2026?
Want to get ahead? Each day we’ll surface one prospect from recent Baseball America coverage who could be on the rise.
Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Grady Emerson, 2026 SS, Texas: Emerson is the top-ranked player in the 2026 class and Baseball America’s Ben Badler saw him in action earlier this month at Perfect Game’s Junior National event. In that look, Emerson stood out as a potential early-round pick in a couple years. He checks nearly every box you’d want from a 16-year-old shortstop, beginning with a sweet lefthanded swing. Emerson is one of 40 standout players in the Class of 2026 with fresh scouting reports today at Baseball America.
In case you missed it…
Here’s some new Emerson footage from earlier this month.
