Prospect Standouts
Eduardo Tait, C, Phillies: Tait put himself on the map in 2023 by leading the charge as one of the youngest players in the DSL. This year, he’s moved stateside and is starting to turn it on. The 17-year-old slugger cracked a pair of home runs on Monday in his team’s 11-10 win of their counterparts from the Yankees. Tait’s second blast was a two-run shot that tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. The homers were Tait’s first two of the season and continued a scorching month in which he’s gone 7-for-23 with a double and a triple also on his ledger.
Pablo Guerrero, OF, Rangers: The Rangers signed Guerrero—the son of Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero—in the same class that also contained Top 100 prospect Sebastian Walcott. Like his father, Pablo packs a lot of power into his swing. He demonstrated as much twice on Monday in the Arizona Complex League by homering twice in his team’s win over the Padres. His first blast was a tremendous shot, traveling an estimated 440 feet and leaving the bat at 103 mph, per TrackMan. The output matched the total he’d amassed in his prior 22 games.
Miguel Bleis, OF, Red Sox: Alex Speier is reporting that the Red Sox are promoting Bleis from Low-A Salem to High-A Greenville. Bleis had a breakout season as a prospect in 2022, and seemed ticketed for a fast track through the minors. The 2023 season slowed that ascent. He struggled with pitch selection and a shoulder injury cost him half the season. Bleis was hitting .257/.349/.398 at the time of his promotion. while those numbers may seem modest, Bleis was doing so in a league where the average hitter hits .230/.326/.342.
Drew Thorpe, RHP, White Sox: Thorpe, baseball's No. 41 prospect, is set to make his White Sox debut on Tuesday against the Mariners. He was traded twice this winter -- first by the Yankees to the Padres in the Juan Soto deal, then by the Padres to Chicago in the Dylan Cease trade -- and now offers a ray of optimism and anticipation for a White Sox season in desperate need of some good news. The righthander was magnificent for Double-A Birmingham this season, going 7-1 with a 1.35 ERA and 56 strikeouts to just 17 walks in 60 innings pitched. Thorpe succeeds on the strength of his plus changeup and command, also mixing in an above-average slider.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Trevor Harrison, RHP, Rays: The Rays selected Harrison, a prep righthander from Florida, in the fifth round of the 2023 draft. So far, he has been one of the best pitchers in the Florida Complex League. Although his latest turn was a bit clunkier than usual, the 18-year-old has still rung up 27 strikeouts in 22 innings, the sixth-highest total in the league. Harrison is a physical pitcher with a fastball that has touched 97 at the front of a three-pitch mix that includes a slider and changeup as well. The former high school teammate of Phillies prospect Aidan Miller looks like another Rays pitching success story in the making. (JN)
