Prospect Standouts
Ramon Ramirez, C, Royals: After demolishing the Dominican Summer League in 2023, Ramirez was one of the team’s brightest young prospects. The beginning to his first campaign in the states was inconsistent, but he’s begun sizzling as the ACL season winds down. Facing Texas, the 19-year-old Ramirez slammed two home runs … in the first two innings, marking the second multi-homer game of his career. The first happened almost exactly a year ago, on July 6, 2023, in the Dominican Summer League.
Jacob Bresnahan, LHP, Guardians: All summer long, Bresnahan has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the Arizona Complex League. The southpaw, whom the Guardians selected out of high school in Washington in 2023, has rung up a league-best 59 hitters. He buttressed his claim to the top spot with his outing on Monday, when he fanned three Padres prospects over five sparkling frames. He allowed five hits and a run (unearned) while walking one.
Jesus Made, SS, Brewers: Made has had one of the best seasons so far in the Dominican Summer League. He added to his ledger on Monday with another game for the scrapbook. Facing the Pirates, Made, hitting out of the leadoff spot, collected three hits and finished a triple shy of the cycle. The double and home run were Made’s fifth of the year in both categories. The longball placed him in a tie for second in the league.
Yilber Diaz, RHP, D-backs: The D-backs righthander has zoomed through the minor leagues in 2024, zapping the competition at Double-A Amarillo and Triple-A Reno, two of the most hitter-friendly atmospheres in the sport. In his last turn with Reno, Diaz struck out 13 over six no-hit innings, earning himself a ticket to the big leagues. He made his debut on Monday and made himself right at home against an Atlanta lineup packed with star power. After allowing a home run to Austin Riley in the first inning, Diaz settled down and settled in. He finished the night with six innings of four-hit, one-run ball with six strikeouts. He got nine whiffs as well.
Engelth Ureña, C, Yankees: Two years ago, Engelth Ureña was one of the Yankees’ more highly touted young prospects. He hasn’t been healthy much since then, and had played just 11 games entering the 2024 season. He’s healthy now, and he’s begun torching the competition in the Florida Complex League. On Monday, he put together the best game of his young career, going 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double and a walk against Toronto. Ureña has been white hot in July, when he’s gone 13-for-24 with six doubles and three longballs in seven games. He’s walked seven times this month and struck out just twice.
Red Sox Righty On The Rise
Want to get ahead? Each day we’ll surface one prospect from recent Baseball America coverage who could be on the rise.
Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Dalvinson Reyes, RHP, Red Sox: Signed in January of this year, Reyes has been one of the biggest breakouts in the DSL this summer. A projectable righthander standing 6-foot-5, Reyes lacks power across his pitch mix but flashes three above-average pitch shapes. Reyes mixes a low-90s sinker, a mid-80s cut slider and a mid-80s changeup with heavy tumble and fade. Reyes has the body that projects to add multiple ticks across his arsenal. If he’s able to develop more power in the coming years without compromising his pitch shapes, he could blossom into one of Boston’s top staring pitching prospects.
