Plus: A's reportedly call up Gage Jump & 10 Statcast Standouts

Gage Jump, LHP, Athletics: The Athletics are calling up Jump, the No. 29 prospect in Baseball America's Top 100, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The 23-year-old pitched to a 4.50 ERA in the hitter-friendly Triple-A Pacific Coast League with 56 strikeouts to 20 walks over 38 innings.

Jump has bat-missing stuff, fronted by a riding mid-90s heater from an upshoot release, as well as a pair of devilish slider variants, a curveball and a changeup. The 2024 second-rounder punched out 131 batters over 111.2 innings in his pro debut in 2025, spending the bulk of the season with Double-A Midland. Jump's command, especially within the strike zone, has been a bit more inconsistent this season, and he owns an 11.8% walk rate with Vegas, but he's coming off his best start of the season, where he completed seven innings for the first time. He has just one walk over his last 11 innings.

Jump is expected to replace RHP Aaron Civale in the Athletics' rotation, according to MLB.com.

David Sandlin, RHP, White Sox: Chicago is calling up Sandlin, its No. 10 prospect, according to Elijah Evans. The White Sox acquired Sandlin over the winter from the Red Sox alongside RHP Jordan Hicks. A back injury delayed Sandlin’s 2026 season, but the 25-year-old has been excellent since returning, striking out 26 batters over 16.1 innings between High-A and Triple-A. That has come with a 14.9% walk rate, and strike-throwing has been Sandlin’s bugaboo in the past, but he has a loud arsenal led by a fastball that can reach 100 mph and a medley of secondaries, including a plus slider and an an above-average curveball.

Complex League Performances To Know: Several teenagers turned in notable Complex League performances on Monday.

Rockies outfielder Cristian Arguelles, who BA’s Matt Eddy tabbed as a riser in our May update, went 3-for-4 with a homer. Giants 17-year-old shortstop Luis Hernandez added another three hits to his ledger and now owns a 1.037 OPS with four homers through the first 17 games of his professional career. Cardinals infielder Sebastian Dos Santos went 3-for-4 with a homer and is slashing .304/.492/.630 through 15 FCL games. Keep your eyes peeled for more on him in this week’s Hot Sheet.

On the mound, Rangers RHP Jacob Johnson struck out six over five scoreless ACL innings. The 2025 11th-rounder out of the Mississippi juco ranks is 1-0, 2.20 with 23 strikeouts in 16.1 innings. He’s another riser from our May Top 30s update.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day

Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.

Jason Schiavone, C, Astros

A 2024 11th-round pick out of James Madison, Schiavone didn’t make much noise in his full-season debut in 2025. Over 78 games split between both levels of A-ball, he hit only .180/.390/.324 with six home runs.

Schiavone falls into the three-true-outcomes profile as a hitter, but he’s showing elite on-base ability by way of a 23.3% walk rate buoyed by a 16.8% chase rate and plus-plus raw power. His year-over-year gains in exit velocities are also notable:

MAX EV

2025

300

107.6

112.2

2026

115.5

We see a 4 mph jump in Schiavone's 90th percentile exit velocity, and he’s increased his max EV by more than 3 mph this spring. Schiavone recently earned a promotion to Double-A Corpus Christi and is the current minor league leader in home runs with 18. His well below-average contact makes this a risky profile, but the power and on-base skills could make this work, particularly as a catcher.
