Devin Fitz-Gerald, INF, Nationals: So far, Nationals fans have to be very happy with the returns from the offseason's MacKenzie Gore trade. A little more than a month into the season, the star of Washington's haul is Fitz-Gerald, who was excellent in 2025 with Texas before a shoulder injury blunted his year shortly after he reached Low-A.
Now healthy, he's beginning to blossom. The latest highlight came Tuesday, when he homered twice in Wilmington's series-opener in Winston-Salem. Fitz-Gerald's first homer led off the game, and he added a second blast in the eighth inning. The longballs were part of a 3-for-4 night that also included a walk. For the season, he's hitting .325/.451/.650 with eight home runs, which is already two more than the total he produced in all of 2025. Fitz-Gerald was added to Baseball America’s Top 100 this week as well.
Jhostynxon Garcia, OF, Red Sox: You've heard of two-factor authentication. Now, get ready for three-factor authentication. Pirates prospect Jhostynxon Garcia, better known as “The Password" went deep three times on Tuesday in Indianapolis' win over Louisville. All three of his home runs were solo shots, and he added a pair of singles to finish with the first five-hit game of his career.
Luis Lara, OF, Brewers: Lara is in the midst of a breakout season. He's earned a spot on BA's Top 100, and he isn't slowing down. Facing Iowa on Tuesday, Lara, who at 21 years old is one of the youngest players in the International League, carded his seventh three-hit game of the season in the Sounds' win. Lara singled three times, walked once and stole a pair of bags, bringing his season total in that department to 15.
Jaron DeBerry, RHP, Brewers: DeBerry was one of the stars of his team's first Spring Breakout games, showcasing his elite feel for spin against a star-studded lineup of Mariners prospects. The regular season had been much rockier, but he turned in a gem in Biloxi's series-opener against Montgomery. Over six one-run innings, DeBerry allowed two hits, walked one and struck out a career-high 10. He also got 17 whiffs before exiting.
FCL Red Sox No-Hitter: Led by rehabber Osvaldo Berrios and followed by Sadbiel Delzine and Juanyerlin Duran, the Red Sox squad in the Florida Complex League threw a no-hitter in their team's 9-1 win over their counterparts from the Pirates. After the 26-year-old Berrios exited, Delzine took the baton for the next 3.1 innings. The fireballing righthander punched out five, walked a pair and allowed a run before yielding. Duran, who also brings his fastball into the upper 90s, finished things by striking out six of the 11 hitters he faced over the final 2.2 frames. The trio was backed in part by Franklin Primera, who had four hits and a walk and drove in a run.
Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.
Jack Wenninger, RHP, Mets: Last year, Wenninger was one of the best pitchers in his team's system. Problem was, he was overshadowed by Jonah Tong and Nolan McLean. The former was BA's 2025 Minor League Pitcher of the Year, while the latter sits atop the big league rotation. Now, Wenninger is starting to grab the spotlight. Against Scranton on Tuesday, he spun five scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and three walks before exiting. With that outing included, Wenninger's ERA now stands at a sparkling 1.08, and he has 38 strikeouts in 33.1 innings.
Quick Hits
Prospect news and notes from around baseball…
Back healthy, Tigers infielder Max Anderson went 5-for-6 with a homer for Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.
Twins 2025 draft pick Quentin Young went 3-for-5 with a homer in Low-A, including two batted balls 110+ mph.
A.J. Ewing tripled, walked three times and scored twice in his big league debut, a Mets 10-2 win over the Tigers.
D-backs RHP Daniel Eagen went five scoreless innings with eight strikeouts for Double-A Amarillo. It was his best start of the year. While Eagen’s 6.98 ERA is unsightly, he’s striking out nearly 30% of hitters with a 10.5% walk rate and has limited hitters to a .200 average, though he has allowed eight homers in 29.2 innings.
