Kevin McGonigle, SS, Tigers: McGonigle doubled his Double-A home run total for season on Tuesday, launching a pair of long balls to help power the Erie SeaWolves to a 10-6 win. The 20-year-old shortstop, who ranks as BA’s No. 2 overall prospect, also lifted a sac fly to finish with four RBIs. McGonigle is now slashing .289./384./.566 with four homers at the Double-A level. After showing some power gains in 2024, a potential surge in over-the-fence production would be a cherry on top for one of the game’s most talented hitting prospects.
Ethan Holliday, SS, Rockies: The No. 4 pick in the most recent draft, Holliday made his professional debut on Tuesday and notched a pair of hits. Holliday started at shortstop and made plays there throughout the night. Holliday’s first hit was a single to right field, before connecting on a double to right. Holliday is one of the first high school players from the 2025 draft to be assigned to a full-season level. His strong performance is his debut bodes well for the rest of his campaign.

JJ Wetherholt, SS, Cardinals: The power stroke has come along for the Wetherholt this season. On Tuesday, the 22-year-old shortstop led off Triple-A Memphis’ game against Charlotte with another homer, his 14th of the season and seventh since being promoted to Triple-A on July 9. Wetherholt, who recently cracked the top five on BA’s Top 100 Prospects list, is one of the best prospects in the game, and the idea of him adding power to his already-sweet batting stroke should strike fear into opposing pitchers. He’s the highest-rated prospect with a chance to still debut in the majors this season and could develop into a perennial all-star-caliber player in the future.

Owen Caissie, OF, Cubs: Since June 1, few hitters on the planet have been as hot as Caissie. Since the start of June, Caissie has hit .343/.438/.680 with 15 home runs over 48 games. On Tuesday, Caissie went 3-for-5 with a homer and two singles. Caissie has shown improvements to his hit tool in his second run through Triple-A and has cut his strikeout rate to 23.3% this year. Though he continues to be blocked from MLB at-bats by the Cubs’ crowded outfield, his continued high-level production has him knocking on the door of the big leagues louder than ever.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.
Mitch Bratt, LHP, Diamondbacks: Bratt’s strong start to his Diamondbacks career after coming over from the Rangers as part of the trade deadline package for Merrill Kelly continued on Tuesday, as the 22-year-old lefthander struck out seven while walking two and allowing four hits over five innings for Double-A Amarillo. Bratt’s lone blemish was a solo shot let up with two outs in his final frame. Ranked as the D-backs’ No. 13 prospect in BA’s latest in-season Top 30 update, Bratt underwent a mechanics overhaul last summer that has been paying dividends all season. By adding some juice to his arsenal, he’s now up to 121 strikeouts in 100.1 innings for 2025.
