Prospect Standouts

Caden Dana, RHP, Angels: Dana was sent straight to Double-A to start the season, which was a very aggressive push for a 20-year-old who came into the season with just 14 full-season starts. So far, he’s had no issues with Double-A hitters. Dana threw seven scoreless innings against Pensacola on Sunday. He allowed two hits and one walk while striking out eight. Dana is now 1-1, 1.87 with 19 strikeouts, three walks and only eight hits allowed in 18.1 innings.

Spencer Jones, OF, Yankees: Jones hit his first home run of 2024 on Sunday. Jones has been consistent at the plate so far this year, but he hasn’t hit for a lot of power. He went 3-for-4 with a home run and two stolen bases on Sunday. He came into the game with one stolen base and one extra-base hit (a double) in his previous five games. Jones is hitting .381/.458/.571.

Edgar Quero, C, White Sox: Quero has been one of the best hitters in the Southern League so far. He added to that excellent start with a 2-for-4 day with his fifth home run of the season. Quero has a six-game hitting streak and has struck out only 16.7% of the time. He’s hitting .326/.426/.698 as a just-turned 21-year-old.

Josue De Paula, OF, Dodgers: De Paula has gotten off to a somewhat slow start. He has at least one hit in 10 of his 12 games this year, but he came into Sunday with two extra-base hits. De Paula topped that extra-base total in one game. He went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple. He’s now hitting .241/.317/.370.

Leodalis De Vries, SS, Padres: Just like they did in 2023 with Ethan Salas, the Padres are moving De Vries at a rapid pace. Hector Gomez reported on Sunday that the shortstop, who signed with San Diego on Jan. 15, 2024, had been promoted from extended spring training to Low-A Lake Elsinore. The 17-year-old De Vries is currently ranked No. 91 on BA’s Top 100. Before the season, we explained why he made the list at the outset.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day

Max Muncy, SS, Athletics: For the second consecutive week, Muncy was featured in our 10 Statcast Standouts. The 21-year-old shortstop is hitting .271/.368/.458 in his first foray with Triple-A Las Vegas and has, so far, cut down on his strikeout rate, which was an area of focus entering the season for the A’s infielder.
