JR Ritchie Set For MLB Debut

Plus: Can anyone slow down Franklin Arias?

The Baseball America Prospect Report is a free daily morning newsletter. Please consider helping to spread the word by forwarding to your friends and helping us grow the BA community!

JR Ritchie, RHP, Braves: The Braves are calling up their No. 2 prospect to start Thursday against the Nationals. Ritchie ranks 71st on Baseball America's Top 100 Prospects list. Drafted out of Bainbridge High School (WA) with the 35th pick in 2022, Ritchie missed most of 2023 and a large chunk of 2024 after he had Tommy John surgery. The righthander returned late in 2024 and pitched his way to Triple-A by the end of 2025.

Ritchie has one of the deepest arsenals in the minors and can mix in up to seven pitches. Ritchie mixes a four-seam fastball and sinker in the 93-95 mph range, pairing his dueling fastball shapes with an above-average mid-80s changeup, and three breaking ball shapes in a curveball, slider and sweeper. He’ll also mix in a cutter to pair with his four-seam and sinker. Ritchie might be up for a spot start, but should be in the mix for the remainder of the season with an outside chance he eventually earns a rotation spot.

Franklin Arias, SS, Red Sox: Arias continued his torrid start to the 2026 season with another home run on Wednesday, his fifth of the season. All five home runs have come in the last six games. Coming into the season, Arias needed to show more power potential to push his ceiling higher. He’s now more than halfway to his career high total of nine home runs after only 12 games.

Arias ranks 46th on BA’s Top 100 Prospects list and is the No. 2 prospect in the Red Sox system. The 20-year-old is now hitting .450/.531/.900 in 49 plate appearances this season. All three of those marks lead the Eastern League.

Adam Serwinowski, LHP, Dodgers: Serwinowski had his best start of the season on Wednesday, striking out eight hitters over six shutout innings. He retired the first 14 hitters he faced and only allowed two hits without walking anyone. He also generated 14 whiffs, which was tied for the third most in Double-A.

Serinowski was originally drafted by the Reds in the 12th round of the 2022 draft. He was dealt to the Dodgers at the trade deadline in 2025 as part of a three-team trade with the Reds and Rays. He had struggled over his first three starts this year, not getting out of the fourth inning and allowing at least five earned runs in each start. Serwinowski currently ranks No. 14 in the Dodgers’ system.

Nate George, OF, Orioles: George was off to a slow start to the 2026 season, hitting .244/.333/.289 coming into Wednesday’s game. He turned things around quickly, going 5-for-6 with three runs scored, three runs batted in, and raised his season line to .314/.386/.353.

All five of George’s hits in the Keys’ 18-2 victory were singles, and so far this year, he has only recorded two extra-base hits in 57 plate appearances. To reach his ceiling of an impact everyday center fielder, he will have to show more power than he has so far in his career. George currently ranks 72nd on the BA Top 100 Prospects List and is the No. 4 prospect in the Orioles’ system.

Joseph Dzierwa, LHP, Orioles: The Orioles’ 2025 second-round pick got plenty of run support during his start on Wednesday as the Keys’ offense scored 18 runs. He didn’t need it, however, as he dominated again, striking out nine batters over his five innings of work. He allowed one earned run on only four hits, including a home run, while walking one. He recorded 20 whiffs, which led all High-A pitchers.

Dzierwa has been one of the most impressive pitchers in the minor leagues this year and currently leads the South Atlantic League in strikeouts with 26. He was dominant during spring training, and he was recently identified as a pitching prospect who could crack the Top 100 in 2026. Dzierwa currently ranks No. 17 in the Orioles’ system, but will rise substantially when the Top 30s get updated next month.

Riley Quick, RHP, Twins: Quick threw three scoreless innings in his third professional start on Wednesday, extending his scoreless innings streak to eight. He did allow a hit for the first time as a professional, but that was the only baserunner that reached against him. Overall, he threw 36 pitches, 27 for strikes, and recorded three strikeouts and seven whiffs.

Quick’s fastball sat in the mid 90s and topped out at 97.9 mph. His changeup was his most successful secondary, generating three whiffs. He also recorded a pair of whiffs on his fastball and one each on his cutter and slider. Quick currently ranks No. 11 in the Twins’ system.

James Tibbs III, OF, Dodgers: After his incredible start to the minor league season, Tibbs endured his first rough patch of the season, going 6-for-50 over a 13-game stretch. He’s bounced back the last two days, recording a pair of doubles on Tuesday and homering on Wednesday to reach double-digits and reclaim the minor league lead.

Tibbs' power is evident, but he’s going to have to show more consistent contact skills to reach his ceiling. His strikeout rate for the season sits at 30%, but he pairs it with a 13% walk rate. In 23 games, Tibbs is hitting .293/.389/.717 and is halfway to his 2025 total of 20 home runs in 123 games. He currently ranks No. 26 in the Dodgers’ system.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day

Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.

Pedro Ramirez, 2B/3B, Cubs: Ramirez is hitting the ball substantially harder this season, and it’s translating into over-the-fence power. The 22-year-old Venezuelan homered twice on Wednesday, as part of a three-hit performance. He also drove in eight runs, giving him 27 on the season, which leads the International League.

Ramirez now has seven home runs in 20 games, which is one less than his career high of eight, which he has done twice in 129 and 104 games. His first home run had an exit velocity of 102.7 mph and traveled 397 feet, and his second home run had an exit velocity of 103.2 mph and traveled 412 feet. Heading into the season, the major question in Ramirez’s profile was his power, which graded as below-average. He now looks to have substantially more power than that and is trending towards Top 100 consideration.
