Prospect Standouts

Luke Keaschall, 2B, Twins: With Brooks Lee in the big leagues, there was a hole to fill on the Futures Game roster. It’s easy to see why Luke Keaschall got the call. The Twins infielder has been excellent all year long, and he finished with a flourish in his last game before heading to Arlington. Facing Springfield, the Arizona State alum went 3-for-4 with a home run—his fourth blast at Double-A. He’s slashing .327/.438/.506 with 21 doubles and 11 home runs in 2024.

Demetrio Crisantes, 2B/3B, D-backs: In the Arizona Complex League, D-backs prospect Demetrio Crisantes was outstanding. After moving to the Low-A California League, he’s taken his game to the next level. He collected three more hits—including a double—in the Rawhide’s win over Stockton on Thursday, bringing his slash line to a sizzling .438/.521/.613 over 20 games. He already has five doubles, three homers and six stolen bases as well.

Austin Charles, SS, Royals: When Austin Charles is in sync, he’s electric. Thursday was one of those nights. Facing Charleston’s ace righty Gary Gill Hill, Charleston banged out three hits—including a home run—and swiped a bag for good measure. He now has seven homers and 26 stolen bases. There’s a long way to go in his development, but nights like Thursday provide hints at his sky-high upside.

Brock Wilken, 3B, Brewers: Brewers prospect Brock Wilken missed significant time this season after getting hit in the face with a pitch. Now, it seems, it’s his turn to get his revenge. The Wake Forest alum crushed a pair of home runs on Thursday at Chattanooga as part of his team’s loss to the Lookouts. The blasts were Wilken’s 11th and 12th of the year, a figure that is made more impressive because he’s played in just 60 games.

Jackson Jobe, RHP, Tigers: After working his way back from an injury earlier in the season, Tigers top prospect Jackson Jobe appears to be rounding back into form. The righty fireballer shut down Somerset on Thursday with five frames of shutout ball with eight strikeouts and three walks. He now has 40 strikeouts in 26.2 innings with Double-A this season.

The nine nastiest pitches in the 2024 MLB Draft class

Want to get ahead? Each day we’ll surface one prospect from recent Baseball America coverage who could be on the rise.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day

LP Langevin, RHP, Louisiana: Happy draft weekend! We’re using this space today to introduce you to nine of the nastiest individual pitches in this draft class. Some of the players, like Chase Burns and Hagen Smith, aren’t exactly under-the-radar names at this point. Langevin might still be. Following a spotless summer in the Draft League in which he posted a 0.00 ERA with 22 strikeouts across 11.1 innings, Langevin became a household name this spring after pitching his way to a 3.73 ERA with 106 strikeouts in 62.2 innings. His fastball is one of the more fascinating pitches in this year’s draft class and is a comfortable 70 on the 20-80 scale. From a low release height, Langevin’s high-spin fastball sits 93-95 but has been up to 97 with no shortage of life through the strike zone. His VAA of -4.31 enhances the pitch even further, and this spring it generated a ridiculous 46% whiff rate.
