Jackson Jobe Nearly Immaculate In Sizzling Start

Plus: Four other Top 100 Prospects headline our Friday Baseball America Prospect Report.

The Tigers are stretching Jackson Jobe, Kristian Campbell continues his torrid 2024 season, plus an injury update on Christian Moore as the season winds to a close.

Kristian Campbell, 2B/OF, Red Sox: Campbell has been one of the best players in the minor leagues all season long. He’s ascended from High-A to Triple-A and in the process has earned a place among the game’s elite prospects. As the season draws to a close, Campbell is showing zero signs of letting his foot off the accelerator. The latest example came Thursday, when he slammed his fourth home run since moving to Triple-A. The longball came as part of 1-for-3 night with two walks, two runs and three RBIs.

Thomas White, LHP, Marlins: From the moment he took the hill in the Marlins’ Spring Breakout game, White has had an up-arrow by his name. The lefthander continued that trend on Thursday when he struck out seven and walked nobody over five three-run innings for High-A Beloit. The outing lowered his Midwest League ERA to 2.61 and gave him 120 strikeouts in 96 innings between both Class A levels.

Connor Hujsak, OF, Rays: Husjak has been a pro less than two months and already has put together a game for the scrapbook. With his Charleston on the road at Columbia, the Mississippi State alum hit three home runs in his team’s loss to the Fireflies. The longballs were the second, third and fourth of his career and accounted for four of his team’s six runs.

Jasson Dominguez, OF, Yankees: On Wednesday, Dominguez cracked his sixth homer of the season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. On Thursday, he did it again. This time, the blast was a two-run shot in the fifth inning of the RailRiders’ eventual win over Syracuse. It came as part of a 3-for-4 night that also featured a walk and three runs scored.

Jackson Jobe, RHP, Tigers: Jobe is the top pitching prospect in the minor leagues. On Thursday, he showed everyone just why he’s earned that title. Facing Double-A Reading, Jobe spun seven one-run innings with three hits, a walk and eight strikeouts on his final ledger. He came a pitch away from an immaculate inning. The outing was Jobe’s longest of the season and brought his 2024 totals to 89 strikeout in 82.2 innings.

Christian Moore, 2B, Angels: Moore suffered a meniscus injury in his left knee, the team announced, putting the rest of his 2024 season in jeopardy. The severity of Moore’s injury is unclear, although the team left the door open for a return, saying their 2024 first-round pick will be “treated conservatively” as he remains with Double-A Rocket City and attempts to ramp back up and return before the end of the season. Rocket City’s last regular season game is Sept. 15. Moore injured his knee diving for a line drive at second base last Friday. Moore, who turns 22 in October, was off to a red-hot start, hitting .330/.381/.567 through 24 games as a professional, inviting questions as to whether ever-aggressive Angels would try to push him all the way to the majors before the end of the season.

Skenes Headlines Our Latest NL Rookie Rankings

With just three full weeks remaining, Matt Eddy updates Baseball America’s rookie power ranking. It’s quite a race at the top. He explains why Skenes is turning in one of the best season from a 22-year-old or younger ever and how Jackson Chourio is just one homer away from becoming the third MLB hitter ever to go 20-20 in his age-20 season.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day

Jonah Tong, RHP, Mets: Tong was one of the hot breakout names early in the season when he overwhelmed hitters for Low-A St. Lucie, then maintained a 30% strikeout rate as he settled in for High-A Brooklyn. Tong dazzled in his Double-A debut last night, striking out nine hitters over six scoreless innings. The righty racks up whiffs thanks to elite vertical break on his fastball and, as he explained this year on our Hot Sheet show, has worked to enhance his offspeed pitches.
