Prospect Standouts
Deyvison De Los Santos, 1B, Marlins: When the Marlins acquired De Los Santos from the D-Backs, there was some question of how his power would be affected by leaving Reno and heading to the less-offensive International League. So far, so good. De Los Santos hit his sixth home run in just 19 games with Jacksonville. That’s his 34th home run overall this year, which is the best in the minors, two ahead of Luken Baker.
Max Anderson, 2B, Tigers: High-A West Michigan second baseman Max Anderson went 2-for-4 with two doubles in Game 1 of the Whitecaps doubleheader on Sunday and then went 2-for-3 in the nightcap. What’s more remarkable is that this continued a streak where Anderson has had two hits in each of his past five games. Anderson is hitting .311/.373/.443 this month, although he only has four extra-base hits (two doubles and two home runs). He’s hitting .265/.316/.390 overall this season.
Aidan Smith, OF, Rays: Recently acquired Low-A Charleston center fielder Aidan Smith went 2-for-3 with a walk, three runs scored and three stolen bases on Sunday. Smith was one of the prospects the Rays acquired in the Randy Arozarena trade. He went hitless in his first two games with Charleston, but has a five-game hitting streak since then and he has five steals in five attempts in just seven games.
Franklin Arias, SS, Red Sox: Low-A Salem shortstop Franklin Arias went 3-for-5 on Sunday. It was Arias’ fourth multi-hit game in the past six games and his second three-hit day in the past three games. Arias dominated the Rookie-level Florida Complex League but has found the Carolina League to be a tougher test. He’s hitting .238/.307/.350 in 20 games with Salem and is hitting .317/.422/.508 overall.
Jac Caglianone, 1B, Royals: Royals first baseman Jac Caglianone has gotten off to a slow start at High-A Quad Cities, but this weekend has seen him heat up. He hit his second home run of his brief pro career as part of a two-hit day on Sunday. He also had two hits on Friday. Caglianone is now hitting .211/.348/.395 in 11 games.
Quinn Mathews, LHP, Cardinals: Double-A Springfield lefthander Quinn Mathews struck out 11 Frisco batters in seven shutout innings. Mathews allowed five hits and no walks. It was the fourth time this season that Mathews has reached double digits in strikeouts as he extended his MiLB strikeout lead. Mathews’ 168 strikeouts are 14 more than Matt “Tugboat” Wilkinson.
RoboScout’s Top 100 Dynasty Targets
Every week, RoboScout puts out of a top 25 prospects per level. This list ranks players within level based on their minor league performance, applies parks factors, regression, aging curves, folds in Statcast data and arrives at projected expected fantasy value.
Yesterday, we took it one step forward, aggregating those players into a master Top 100 midway through August. Below, Baseball America subscribers can see RoboScout’s latest Top 100, which does not include prospects who debuted in the majors.
Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Brody Hopkins, RHP, Rays: Hopkins started opening eyes in spring training, when he was one of the 70 prospects scouts identified on the backfields as potential up-arrow players. Once the regular season began, it was easy to see why they felt that way about the 2023 sixth-rounder out of Winthrop. The 22-year-old Hopkins was dealt from the Mariners along with two other prospects to the Rays in the Randy Arozarena deal. Prior to that, Hopkins had an eye-opening turn at Low-A Modesto, where he struck out 95 hitters in 83.2 innings.
