Konnor Griffin, SS, Pirates: Baseball’s No. 1 prospect is headed to Double-A Altoona, which Griffin himself confirmed Sunday evening. It's the second promotion of the season for Griffin. He hit .338/.396/.536 at Low-A Bradenton, earning a promotion to High-A Greensboro after 50 games. He spent 51 games in Greensboro, hitting .325/.432/.510.
Overall, Griffin is hitting .332/.414/.524 with 16 home runs and 59 steals this season. Griffin turned 19 early in the season. When he takes his first at-bat, Griffin, who was born on April 24, 2006, will become the second-youngest player in Double-A this year, trailing only Ethan Salas. Sebastian Walcott, who was born a month before Griffin, currently is the second-youngest player to play in a Double-A game this year. The arrival of Leo De Vries to Double-A, who also has been promoted, will push Griffin to third-youngest.
Here's the complete list of players who have played in Double-A since 2010 who turned 19 or younger during the season they reached Double-A.
Leo De Vries, SS, Athletics: After 15 games with High-A Lansing, shortstop Leo De Vries is headed to Double-A Midland according to Francys Romero. Acquired from the Padres in the Mason Miller trade, De Vries hit .268/.338/.518 in his 15 games at Lansing. He's hitting .249/.354/.426 overall.
The 18-year-old will become the youngest player in Double-A when he makes his debut. He will become only the 19th player to play in Double-A in his age 18 season since 2010. Others on that list include Jackson Chourio, Fernando Tatis Jr., Bryce Harper and Samuel Basallo.
Speaking of Basallo, he was the third prospect ranked in our top 10 to change levels on Sunday. The Orioles called him up to the majors for his big league debut, where he went 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs.
What a DAY for prospect promotions.

Carson Williams, SS, Rays: Williams has struggled to make contact this year with Triple-A Durham, but when he does connect, he's doing plenty of damage. Williams went 3-for-4 with a triple and his 22nd home run of the season on Sunday. It was his fifth home run in 15 games this month.
Williams is hitting .214/.317/.444 overall this year, and he's striking out 34% of the time. But he has shown some improvement as the season has worn on. He's hitting .250/.352/.534 since June 1, and his 16 home runs are tied for the fifth most in the minors over that stretch.
Jordan Lawlar, SS, D-backs: When the D-backs traded away Eugenio Suarez, Lawlar was his logical replacement for Arizona. There was only one problem. Lawlar was on the injured list with a hamstring injury.
Lawlar is back now. He returned from the IL on Friday, and he's gone 4-for-13 in his first three games back for Triple-A Reno. On Sunday, Lawlar tripled and walked in a 1-for-3 day.
Injuries have stood between Lawlar and MLB success so far. He's been limited to 56 games at Reno (and eight games in Arizona) this year. He played just 23 games because of injuries in 2024. Lawlar first reached the majors in 2023, but he still has just 50 MLB at-bats.
If he can stay healthy, this next month may finally change that, as Lawlar could stake a claim to a spot in the D-backs infield. He just turned 23-years-old, so he's still quite young even with the injury setbacks.
Marcelo Mayer, SS, Red Sox: Mayer's season is officially over. Mayer will have season-ending surgery to repair his right wrist. He has been on the injured list since July 25. This is the second time Mayer has seen his season cut short because of this injury. He also missed time in 2022 after injuring his TFCC (triangular fibrocartilage complex).
Mayer made it to the majors for the first time in 2025, hitting .228/.272/.402 across 136 major league plate appearances while impressing defensively. Staying healthy has been a challenge for Mayer. He's yet to play 100 games in a pro season, and he's spent time on the IL in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Christian Cerda, C, D-backs: Double-A Amarillo catcher Christian Cerda had one of the better games in the minors this year, as he went 4-for-4 with three home runs, six RBIs and five runs scored (he also walked once). The 22-year-old has seen a power surge. He's hitting .232/.336/.434 with 17 home runs this year, easily topping his 11-home run previous career high. Last year, Cerda hit just five homers in 105 games.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.
Michael Forret, RHP, Orioles: In his first start for Double-A Chesapeake, the O’s righthander held the loaded Erie lineup to just two hits and one unearned run in six innings. He walked no one and struck out seven. The lone run Forret allowed came when Kevin McGonigle reached on an Aron Estrada fielding error in the sixth inning, which allowed Ben Malgeri, who had doubled earlier, to score. Forret has not allowed an earned run in his last five outings stretching over 20.1 innings. Overall, Forret is 2-2, 1.37 in 65.2 innings this year. He's held opponents to a .147 average and he has a 0.76 WHIP this season.
