George Lombard Jr., SS, Yankees: According to a report from ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Yankees have made the call to promote shortstop George Lombard Jr. to Double-A Somerset.
Lombard Jr., the son of the former big leaguer of the same name, has been one of the better hitters in the minor leagues this season. Through 24 games at High-A Hudson Valley, the Florida prep product was hitting .329/.495/.488 with a home run and more walks (23) than strikeouts (22).
Lombard Jr. took the reins as New York's top prospect after outfielder Jason Dominguez graduated from consideration. He drew effusive praise from scouts during the spring, with one evaluator calling him the best prospect he'd seen in either the Cactus or Grapefruit League. He was one of the most notable risers of Baseball America's April Top 100 Prospects update, moving up 50 spots.
After conquering the Class A levels, Lombard Jr. will now get to test his mettle against best the upper levels have to offer.
Mike Sirota, OF, Dodgers: The Dodgers have problems few other organizations have to deal with. Take Sirota's quandary. Picked up in the offseason from the Reds in the Gavin Lux trade, Sirota should be in High-A. But that High-A Great Lakes club has Top 100 Prospects Josue DePaula and Zyhir Hope as well as 2023 first-round pick Kendall George in the outfield. So Sirota is playing for Low-A Rancho Cucamonga, but he is mashing there. Sirota went 4-for-4 with his fourth home run of the season on Sunday. Sirota is now hitting .364/.456/.675 for the Quakes. BA subscribers can read more about Sirota here.
Michael Arroyo, 2B, Mariners: His batting average is a bit unsightly, but Arroyo showed signed of life on Sunday for High-A Everett. Arroyo homered twice against Eugene, raising his slash line to .224/.361/.418 while doubling his home run total. Arroyo was batting below the Mendoza line (.200) earlier this week, but the Colombian infielder remains an excellent prospect with solid hitting ability.
Jac Caglianone, 1B, Royals: When Caglianone hits home runs for Double-A Northwest Arkansas, he does so with a flair for the dramatic. On Saturday night, he hit a 415-foot homer to right field that ended up on the roof of the building beyond the Hammonds Field fence. On Sunday, he hit a 115-mph screaming line drive that bounced off the building. Caglianone is hitting .315/.395/.543 with six home runs in 27 games.
Jac Caglianone does not get cheated on his home runs 😂
The @Royals top prospect has homered in consecutive days.

Bob Seymour, 1B, Rays: Seymour hit a pair of 400+ feet home runs on Sunday for his second multi-homer game of the week with Triple-A Durham. Seymour hits homers in bunches. He's hit 28 home runs in Triple-A, and he's now has six multi-homer games for Durham. Seymour is hitting .246/.298/.500 this year.
Cade Horton, RHP, Cubs: Horton gave up one run in six innings against Triple-A Buffalo. It was the sixth time in six starts this year that Horton had allowed one or fewer runs, as he actually raised his ERA to 1.24 with what was an excellent start. Horton struck out five. He sat at 94-96 mph with his fastball, and he got six whiffs with his 82-84 mph slider. Horton's 1.24 ERA is second-best in the International League, and his .129 opponent's average is also second-best in the league.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.
Payton Tolle, LHP, Red Sox: In his first start of the season, High-A Greenville lefthander Payton Tolle gave up six runs in just 1.2 innings. Ever since that awful debut, he's dominated. Tolle struck out 12 of the 18 batters he faced in five scoreless innings against Asheville, lowering his ERA to 4.30. Tolle was electric with a 95-97 mph fastball, an effective 84-86 mph slider and a low-90s changeup. The Red Sox 2024 second-round pick has struck out 26 batters and walked only two in his last 13 innings.
