Mike Sirota, OF, Dodgers: Sirota's outstanding start to the 2025 season for Low-A Rancho Cucamonga got even better on Sunday. Sirota went 3-for-6 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs. Sirota is now hitting .354/.443/.687 with seven home runs and 17 extra-base hits in 24 games. Sirota leads the Cal League in home runs (7), slugging percentage (.687), OPS (1.130), total bases (68) and extra-base hits (17). Logically, he's more than ready for a promotion to High-A, but the Dodgers have a stacked outfield in Great Lakes, so a promotion for him would likely require other promotions as well.
Tim Elko, 1B, White Sox: As the White Sox have struggled at the major league level, Elko's success at Triple-A has been one of the bright spots for White Sox fans to celebrate. Elko received his first-ever big league callup this weekend, and he responded by hitting his first home run on Sunday, which also was his first MLB hit. Elko connected with a Sandy Alcantara curveball for a two-run homer in the sixth inning of Chicago’s 4-2 win.
Juaron Watts-Brown, RHP, Blue Jays: Watts-Brown struck out 10 batters for the third time in seven starts in a dominating six shutout innings against High-A Spokane. Watts-Brown gave up a single to the second batter he faced and the second to last batter he faced, but those were the only baserunners he allowed. Watts-Brown has struck out 39.4% of all batters he's faced this year. He's 0-2, 3.90 for the sesson.
Jefferson Rojas, SS/2B, Cubs: There are few hitters in the High-A Midwest League hotter than Rojas. The Cubs prospect had his first multi-homer game of his pro career on Sunday as part of a three-hit game. Rojas is hitting .412/.475/.765 this month with five extra-base hits and three steals in three attempts. He's hitting .300/.387/.513 overall.
Cole Carrigg, OF, Rockies: When Carrigg joined the Rockies, he was the ultra-rare catcher/shortstop/center fielder. Soon he stopped catching, and this year he's focused entirely on playing plus center field defense. Carrigg has continued to hit as he's simplified his defensive roles. Sunday was one of his best days as a pro. He homered twice and walked once, going 2-for-3 for Double-A Hartford. Carrigg is now hitting .282/.388/.563 with seven home runs in 28 games.
JR Ritchie, RHP, Braves: On the heels of his 95-pitch complete game shutout on Saturday, the Braves informed JR Ritchie that he will join Double-A Columbus to start the week. Over seven starts this season Ritchie has been exceptional, pitching to a 4-1 record with a 1.30 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 38 strikeouts to 10 walks across 41.2 innings. The 21 year old righthander was drafted in the supplemental first round in 2022 and missed time each of the last two seasons after he had Tommy John surgery in May of 2023. Ritchie could be an option for the Braves later this season if he continues to perform in Double-A.
Jarlin Susana, RHP, Nationals: The Nationals announced on Sunday that righthanded pitching Jarlin Susana would be shutdown for two weeks due to a Grade 1 UCL sprain. Susana last pitched on May 4, allowing two runs over three innings and struggled with control. The team will reportedly reevaluate the situation in two weeks to determine next steps. The news was first reported by Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com.
While Susana’s results have been solid this season, with an even ERA to FIP of 4.15, he’s shown noticeably worse control from a year ago. His walk rate has spiked to 16.4% from 10.8% in 2024. Susana averaged above 99 mph on his fastball in 2024 and has touched as high as 103 mph in game, making him one of the hardest throwers in baseball. In all likelihood Susana will miss three to four starts at a minimum, but the injury is an ominous sign for one of the hardest-throwing starting pitchers in the game.
