PROSPECT STANDOUTS
Jackson Holliday, SS, Orioles: Baseball’s No. 1 prospect is expected to join the Orioles today in Boston. Baseball America’s J.J. Cooper dives into what you can expect from Holliday in his big league debut.
Echedry Vargas, IF, Rangers: In 2023, Rangers prospect Echedry Vargas was one of the stars of the Arizona Complex League. His 11 home runs tied Dodgers prospect Jeral Perez for tops on the circuit, and he led the league in extra-base hits and total bases as well. On Tuesday, the infielder got his first full-season longball under his belt as well. The blast came as part of Low-A Down East’s win over Carolina.
Jace Jung, 2B, Tigers: Slowly but surely, the Tigers’ farm system is beginning to show its claws. Righty Jackson Jobe has a case as the best pitching prospect in the sport. Max Clark, the team’s 2023 first-rounder, is as dynamic as they come. Wilmer Flores looks rejuvenated. And Jace Jung just keeps on hitting. The infielder put his stamp on Toledo’s win on Tuesday, going 3-for-3 with a home run and a seventh-inning double that game his team its eventual margin of victory.
James Wood, OF, Nationals: While their system might not be the deepest in the sport, the Nationals’ top three prospects—Dylan Crews, James Wood and Brady House—form an enviable trio. Crews broke out of his early skid in a big way in his game at Double-A, and Wood continued his excellent start one level up. The massive outfielder, who came over from the Padres in the trade that sent Juan Soto to San Diego, doubled and scored twice apiece in Rochester’s loss to Buffalo. For the season, Wood is 9-for-25 with five doubles.
Juan Brito, SS, Guardians: When they traded Nolan Jones to Colorado, the Guardians received infielder Juan Brito in exchanged. Jones has blossomed in Denver, and Brito has quickly morphed into one of Cleveland’s better prospects. On Tuesday, he got on base four times, including a single, two walks and his second home run of the season. The output was part of the Clippers’ bludgeoning of Louisville by a final score of 13-4.
Dylan Crews, OF, Nationals: After a rough weekend against Erie—which included the imposing arm talent of Jackson Jobe—Nats top prospect Dylan Crews started his first full series of the year with a bang. The No. 2 overall pick from the 2023 draft crushed a pitch from Altoona righty Braxton Ashcraft (a fine prospect in his own right) for his first home run of the season. The blast was part of an outstanding night overall, which included three singles as well, marking the third game of four or more hits in Crews’ short professional career.
Nick Kurtz, 1B, Wake Forest: Kurtz has been on a scorching run lately. The No. 8 overall draft prospect started the 2024 season a bit slower than usual, and also missed a few games with a shoulder injury. He’s putting both in the rearview mirror and Tuesday night extended his home run streak to six games with a two-homer performance in his first four plate appearances against Coastal Carolina. The multi-homer effort gave him a staggering 10 home runs in his last six games and has thrown him back into the 1-1 debate at the top of the class.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Landen Maroudis, RHP, Blue Jays: Observant Baseball America readers are getting quite familiar with Maroudis’ name at this point. The prep righty made quite the debut on Sunday. Over four perfect innings Maroudis struck out five, touched 96.4 mph and sat 94.5 mph, mixing in a slider at 85 mph and a low-80s curveball. During the spring, Maroudis impressed on the backfields for his combination of present stuff, projection and pitchability. The fourth-rounder could be a potential mover this season.
