Dodgers RHP Kicks Off ACL Finals In Style

Plus: Our latest trade breakdowns from a busy weekend of transactions.

Welcome back after a busy weekend across baseball. Five prospects headline the BAPR this morning from the Dodgers, Braves, Red Sox, Phillies and Royals organizations. You can also find our updated deadline tracker below which includes links to our analysis on all prospects traded in advance of the deadline.

Prospect Standouts

Drue Hackenberg, RHP, Braves: It doesn’t come close to matching the 16-strikeout game he threw in his previous start, but Hackenberg struck out six while walking one and allowing three hits in five innings of work for Double-A Mississippi on Sunday. Hackenberg did give up two runs, but one of them was unearned as Chandler Simpson stole third and then scored on a throwing error by Braves’ catcher Sebastian Rivero.

Eduardo Tait, C, Phillies: A recent promotion to Low-A Clearwater from the Florida Complex League, Tait hit his first Florida State League home run on Sunday, as he went 2-for-2 with a double and a home run. Tait, one of the best prospects in the Phillies’ system, is now hitting .315/.369/.503 this year.

Austin Charles, SS/3B, Royals: Charles went 4-for-4 with a triple, a walk and a stolen base for Low-A Columbia on Sunday, continuing a very impressive hot stretch. Charles has hit .338/.418/.471 this month, raising his overall slash line to .250/.350/.377. Charles remains one of the toolsier prospects in the Royals system, and now his production is starting to catch up to his tools.

Mikey Romero, SS/2B, Red Sox: In his pro career, Romero had never had a four-hit game until last Sunday, when he went 4-for-5 with two home runs against Bowling Green. Now, he’s done it again. Romero went 4-for-5 with two home runs and a double against Hickory. He’s now hitting .315/.342/.685 this month for High-A Greenville. He’d hit just three home runs in his career coming into this month, but has hit five this month.

Hyun-Seok Jang, RHP, Dodgers: The Arizona Complex League finals kicked off Sunday evening and Dodgers 20-year-old righty Hyun-Seok Jang started the series with aplomb in an 8-1 win over the ACL D-backs. Jang tossed three scoreless innings, striking out eight batters to just one walk while allowing no hits. Jang struck out the side to open the game on just 10 pitches. Jang’s mid-90s fastball has topped out at 98 this year and his also mixes in a mid-80s bullet slider and a firmer upper-80s splitter with video game like swing and miss rates so far this year. Baseball America’s Josh Norris had a great primer for the Complex League postseason on Friday.

LEODALIS DE VRIES IS HEATING UP

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day

Leodalis De Vries, SS, Padres: De Vries is already on everyone’s radar as a Top 100 Prospect, but let’s take a moment to appreciate his breakneck pace over the last two months. We can’t overstate what he’s doing as the youngest hitter in full-season ball. Entering the weekend, De Vries’ .901 OPS since June 3 would be the highest season mark by a 17-year old in Low-A since 2006 with a minimum of 100 plate appearances. His full-season 117 wRC+ is just behind the 122 wRC+ that org-mate Ethan Salas put up at the same age last year to much fanfare. It’s still a short sample, but RoboScout has seen enough: De Vries is a top-10 fantasy prospect. He headlines RoboScout’s Low-A rankings below as of yesterday’s update.
