Bryce Eldridge Goes Deep

Plus: Lesser Know Hitters Who Compare To Top Prospects.

Today’s BAPR is a mix of well-known prospects and a name you may not know. See why the D’backs are getting good news from the Dominican Republic, and check out Dylan White’s hitting prospects with intriguing characteristics.

Bryce Eldridge, 1B, Giants: It’s no secret that Bryce Eldridge is the most powerful man in the Giants’ system. The hulking lefty slugger sent 23 baseballs over the fence throughout the course of a 116-game regular season which saw him climb from Low-A to Triple-A. The cherry on top is a six-week stint in the Arizona Fall League, where he is one of the highest-profile prospects. Eldridge has scuffled somewhat in the early portion of the season, but he finished his latest game with a flourish by slamming an opposite-field blast over the left-center field wall at Peoria Stadium on Thursday as part of a two-hit effort which also included an opposite-field double. He also struck out three times and swung and missed eight times during the game.

Eriq Swan, RHP, Dodgers Phillies righthander Andrew Painter is the only pitcher currently in the Arizona Fall League who ranks on Baseball America’s Top 100. If Dodgers righty Eriq Swan pitches in 2025 like he did on Thursday night, he might find his way onto the list one day soon. Swan was Los Angeles’ supplementary fourth-round pick in 2023, out of Middle Tennessee State. In his draft season, Swan’s fastball averaged 98 mph and touched 102 mph, making it the hardest pitch of its kind in the country with a minimum of 100 pitches thrown. He mixed it with firm changeup and a sharp slider, but his command was poor and hitters in Conference USA found contact and impact easy to come by.

On Thursday, he showed those same three pitches as well as a hellacious cutter in the high 80s, just a couple of ticks hotter than his slider and with hard, late bite. His four-seam fastball sat in the mid 90s and peaked at 98, while his changeup hovered around the low 90s. By the time his night was over, Swan had spun three shutout innings with just an infield single on his ledger. He struck out five, walked nobody, struck out five and got 11 swings and misses—three on his changeup and four apiece on the slider and cutter. He also averaged more than 6.5 feet of extension thanks to his 6-foot-6, long-armed frame.

After two outings, Swan has now gone six innings while allowing one run on three hits while striking out 10 and walking nobody.

Tommy Troy, 2B, D’backs: D'backs second baseman Tommy Troy has had a rough introduction to the Arizona Fall League. Troy doubled in his first AFL game, and then endured an 0-for-20 drought with 10 strikeouts. His October started to turn around on Thursday. Troy went 3-for-5 with a double, triple and home run, missing out on a cycle only by failing to single. Troy is now hitting .133/.206/.367.

Jordan Lawlar, SS, D’backs: After a second consecutive injury-plagued regular season, D'backs shortstop Jordan Lawlar has headed to the Dominican Republic to make up for some of those lost at-bats. Lawlar went 0-3 with three strikeouts on Thursday, but he still reached base twice thanks to a walk and a hit-by-pitch. He stole a base. Lawlar is hitting .429/.556/1.000 after two games with Licey. A healthy stint in the Dominican Winter League could help ready him to return to Arizona in 2025.
