Briceño Blasts Eighth Fall League Homer
Plus: Andrew Painter spins another gem and an Orioles catcher hits an improbable inside-the-park homer.
Josue Briceño, 1B, Tigers: No player may have raised his stock in the Arizona Fall League this season quite like Briceño. Briceño was super once again on Tuesday, hitting his eighth home run of the season. The homer was launched at 108.4 mph traveling 423 feet and came as a part of a 1-for-3 day with a walk. Briceño is now hitting .406 with a 1.322 OPS in Fall League play.

Andrew Painter, RHP, Phillies: Painter continues to make strides in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The Phillies’ top prospect made his fifth appearance in the Arizona Fall League on Tuesday and pitched a gem. Painter tossed three hitless, scoreless innings, facing the minimum number of batters and retiring the final eight he faced. Painter was up to 99 mph on his fastball, mixing in his low-80s curveball and upper-80s slider as his primary secondary weapons. It’s been a strong return to action for Painter in AFL play. Painter has now thrown 10 consecutive scoreless innings.
Otto Kemp, 3B, Phillies: Kemp leads the Arizona Fall League in RBIs, and he put some distance between himself and second place on Tuesday. Kemp gave Glendale a 5-1 lead in the top of the sixth with a grand slam to left field, Kemp’s sixth home run in the AFL. The home run left the bat at 107.7 mph and traveled 431 feet. Kemp went 1-for-3 with a double in the second game of the doubleheader. It’s been a breakout performance for the underrated Phillies prospect. Signed as a nondrafted free agent after the 2022 draft, Kemp reached Triple-A in his second full professional season and hit .285/.392/.489 across all levels.
Creed Willems, C, Orioles: Willems has been a strong performer throughout the Fall League, showing bat-to-ball skills, approach and power. On Tuesday, Willems showed off some unexpected running ability, legging out an inside-the-park home run. Willems is not known as a runner, so hitting an inside-the-park homer has to rank among the least expected moments of the 2024 AFL season.
Ethan Salas, C, Padres: The Arizona Fall League is the perfect setting for hitters looking to getting over a tough season. The quality of the pitching is fringy, the hitting environments are friendly and the stakes are low. After a 2024 to forget, Ethan Salas is riding the momentum of a strong AFL performance into the offseason. Salas went deep for the third time this Fall in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game. Salas is hitting .268 with an .841 OPS in the AFL.
