Bradfield Jr. Shows Impact, Speed In AFL

Plus: He's not the only Orioles standout. We also rolled out draft report cards for every organization.

Ethan Anderson, C, Orioles: Enrique Bradfield Jr. and lefty Luis De Leon headline Baltimore crop of prospects in the AFL, but Anderson is slowly making up ground and stands out as one of the league's breakout talents. On Tuesday, he went 2-for-5 with his fifth two-bagger of the fall. The double, which came off a changeup from Dominic Perachi, featured an EV of 101.9 mph.

Enrique Bradfield Jr., OF, Orioles: In addition to making jaw-dropping catches in center field, Bradfield Jr. shows the kind of offensive skills that would fit well at the top of any lineup. Those traits were on display on Tuesday against Salt River. He finished the day 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles—including one struck at 102.1 mph—as well as a run and two stolen bases. He achieved a top sprint speed of 29.4 feet per second, the same as big leaguers Myles Straw and Otto Kemp.

Jeferson Quero, C, Brewers: Injuries have hampered Quero's last two seasons, but he's making up for lost time in the Venezuelan Winter League. On Tuesday, DHing for the Cardenales de Lara, the 23-year-old went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. In four games, Quero is 4-for-12 with a double, a home run and four RBIs. He's struck out just once in 13 plate appearances.

Cade Smith, RHP, Yankees: Smith spent most of the year injured, pitching just 39.2 innings by the time the season closed. He's making up for lost time in the AFL, and so far has looked mighty good in the process. His latest turn came on Tuesday in a start for Mesa against Glendale. The righthander shut down the Desert Dogs for three innings, limiting them to two hits and a walk before yielding to Rays righty Jackson Baumeister. Smith struck out one in the outing and now has just one run allowed over 9.2 innings. He's also issued just one walk in that time and has racked up 11 strikeouts.

Max Anderson, 2B, Tigers: Anderson was one of the summer's under-the-radar breakout performers. Between Double-A and Triple-A, the 23-year-old hit .296/.350/.478 with 31 doubles and 19 home runs. In the AFL, he's added four more longballs to his season total. The latest came on Tuesday, when he reached Rangers prospect Winston Santos for a two-run blast in the seventh inning of Scottsdale's win over Surprise. Three of Anderson's batted ball events came with exit velocities of greater than 100 mph, including a 106.4 mph lineout.
