Baseball's New No. 1 Prospect
Plus: The Giants' crazy ACL rout, a sleeper Cardinals arm and more.

Jesús Made, SS, Brewers: Once again, the Brewers have baseball’s No. 1 prospect. Made ascended to pole position in Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects on Wednesday following Konnor Griffin’s graduation. Made, 19, is one of the game’s most advanced young players. While he has scuffled in May for Double-A Biloxi, he has all the makings of a fast-mover who could potentially reach the big leagues by 20 years old, a development arc quite similar to Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio. Check out more below from Baseball America’s Ben Badler:
Johnny King, LHP, Blue Jays: Few teenage pitchers have been more unhittable to open the 2026 season than King. On Wednesday against Everett, King tossed five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out eight. The outing marked both his longest as a professional and a season high in strikeouts.
King mixes three pitches: a four-seam fastball, curveball and changeup. His fastball sits 93-95 mph and touches 97 with heavy ride and run with a good plane. His curveball is a hammer in the 82-84 mph range with heavy two-plane break. His splitter-like changeup shows promising vertical separation off the fastball, though it remains a work in progress. Right now, King lives off two plus pitches and a tough lefthanded angle.
Devin Fitz-Gerald, INF, Nationals: The Nationals’ return for MacKenzie Gore looks better by the day, as Fitz-Gerald seemingly homers daily. On Wednesday, Fitz-Gerald hit his sixth home run in his last seven games, launching a grand slam in the seventh inning. He’s now up to nine homers on the season while slashing .320/.443/.656. Fitz-Gerald was added to the Top 100 Prospects earlier this week, bringing one of the better blends of contact ability, approach and game power in the minors.
Theo Gillen, OF, Rays: The Rays’ farm system has been smoking hot through the first six weeks of the season, and among the organization’s many ascending talents, High-A Bowling Green outfielder Theo Gillen continues to stand out. On Wednesday, the 20-year-old helped lead Bowling Green to a 10-4 win over Greenville in South Atlantic League action. Gillen went 2-for-5 with his eighth home run of the season, adding a stolen base, two runs scored and two RBIs. Through 26 games, Gillen is hitting .289/.404/.622 with eight home runs.
Colt Emerson, SS, Mariners: One of the top prospects remaining in the minors—and currently the highest-paid—Emerson has balanced lofty expectations while adjusting to the highest level of the minors. On Wednesday, Emerson hit his seventh home run of the season and drove in four runs as part of a two-hit game. Through 35 games with Triple-A Tacoma, Emerson is hitting .257/.342/.478.
Brendan Beck, RHP, Yankees: While Beck is an older prospect at 27, he also missed two full seasons as a professional. Earlier this month, Beck made his MLB debut for the Yankees, throwing three innings before being sent back to Triple-A. On Wednesday, Beck tossed 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out nine. Beck works in the low 90s with a cut-ride fastball and mixes in a slider, curveball and splitter.
Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.
Jacob Odle, RHP, Cardinals: The Cardinals may have landed a real sleeper in their 2023 14th-round pick. After two underwhelming seasons to begin his pro career, Odle has taken off to begin 2026. He has added more than 3 mph to his average fastball, now sitting 96-98 mph and touching 99. On Wednesday, Odle tossed 4.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out a career-high nine. The improved velocity has helped his entire arsenal play up, and Odle looks poised to jump into the next Cardinals Top 30 update.

Prospect news and notes from around baseball…
Rays outfielder Austin Overn homered twice on Wednesday for Double-A Montgomery.
Newly-minted Top 100 Prospect Wei-En Lin was scratched from his start for Double-A Midland with a quad injury, according to Bill Moriarty.
Tigers shortstop Bryce Rainer has a 42% strikeout rate since his promotion to High-A.
Royals RHP Michael Lombardi struck out eight over four innings for Low-A Columbia. A 2025 second-rounder out of Tulane, Lombardi has less mileage than a typical college arm because he was a two-way player in college, but he’s not finding a ton of resistance in Low-A. He has a 43.1% strikeout rate (albeit with a 14.7% walk rate) through 25.2 innings, including 17 punchouts over his last nine innings.
