Samuel Basallo, C, Orioles: Few prospects offer the kind of upside that Orioles catcher Samuel Basallo does. If he sticks behind the plate, the 20-year-old slugger has a chance to develop into one of the game’s premier offensive catchers. Armed with double-plus power and average or better plate skills, Basallo is a challenge for opposing pitchers every time he steps in the box. On Wednesday, he homered for the third straight game as part of a 1-for-3 showing with a walk. The blast was his 23rd of the season, and he’s now slashing .278/.387/.621 over 71 games with Triple-A Norfolk. A late-season cup of coffee wouldn’t be surprising once Norfolk’s season wraps.
Samuel Basallo has gone YARD in THREE straight games💪

James Tibbs III, OF, Dodgers: Traded twice this season—first to the Red Sox in the Rafael Devers deal, then to the Dodgers at the deadline—Tibbs made a statement on Wednesday for Double-A Tulsa. The outfielder went 4-for-4 with two home runs, two walks, four RBIs and three runs scored, homering once for each time he’s changed teams in 2025. It was a flawless night at the plate and a reminder of why some of baseball’s smartest front offices have been eager to acquire his services.
Gavin Kilen, SS, Giants: The Giants’ 2025 first-round pick has gone right to work to begin his pro career. On Wednesday, Kilen collected his first two-hit game in just his second professional game. Kilen’s first hit came with the bases loaded and drove in two runs. His second hit was a low line drive to left field in the third inning. Kilen has an advanced hit tool and should face few challenges against Low-A competition.
Jhonny Level, 2B, Giants: After tearing up the Arizona Complex League for two months, Level earned a promotion to Low-A San Jose last week. After a solid start, Level broke out in a big way on Wednesday night going 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and a stolen base. At 18 years old, Level is one of the most exciting young players in the Giants system and the lower minors at the moment.
Tommy Troy, 2B, D-backs: While 2024 was a season to forget for Troy, 2025 has been resurgence. After hitting .286/.382/.461 over 87 games with Double-A Amarillo, Troy earned a promotion to Triple-A Reno last Saturday. He has impressed over three games since then, but Wednesday's effort was his best yet. Troy went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. The home run came in the top of the ninth with two on as it left that bat at just 92.6 mph to sneak over the left field fence. Troy is just a call away from the major leagues and has found his swing again in 2025.

Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Caden Scarborough, RHP, Rangers: The Rangers have recently become an underrated pitching development house for the past few years. While they’ve had a few notable big league wins—Jack Leiter in particular—the best may still be on the way.
Scarborough, a projectable righthander drafted in the sixth round in 2023 out of the Florida prep ranks, showed signs of a breakout early this spring. He showed improved stuff and a more synchronized operation on the mound. Over 17 appearances with Low-A Hickory, he’s pitched to a 3.38 ERA, 3.39 FIP and 2.59 xFIP. While his 64 innings fall short of qualifying thresholds, he’s logged the two longest starts of his pro career over the past month.
Scarborough has legitimate swing-and-miss stuff, striking out 32.4% of batters he’s faced with a 13.8% swinging strike rate. Scarborough mixes a trio of pitches in a mid-90s fastball with heavy armside run from a low release height, a low-80s sweeper with at times eye-popping horizontal break numbers and a work-in-progress changeup. He’s one of 10 breakout pitching prospects Geoff Pontes highlighted yesterday for Baseball America subscribers.
