Justin Gonzales, OF, Red Sox: Gonzales went 3-for-5 on Sunday and hit his first home run in 13 games, a game-tying grand slam. The ball cleared the batter’s eye in center field at Asheville, traveling beyond the 375-foot marker.
It’s been a solid, if unspectacular, start for Gonzales, who is viewed as one of the top power prospects in the Red Sox system. He’s hitting .276/.337/.447. Gonzales homered in two of his first three games to open the season, then went without one until Sunday.
Ronny Cruz, SS, Nationals: The Nationals promoted Cruz to High-A Wilmington this week, and six games in, he already has three home runs. Cruz went 2-for-4 on Sunday with his third homer of the week. He’s also swiped six bases in six games, though he was caught stealing Sunday and has been thrown out twice since the promotion.
Cruz is hitting .370/.414/.704 in his brief Wilmington stint and .346/.446/.654 overall. He’s already tied for the third-most home runs on the Blue Rocks roster.
Seaver King, SS, Nationals: King went 2-for-4 with a triple and a home run on Sunday, extending his six-game hitting streak for Double-A Harrisburg.
King’s fifth-inning homer tied the game at 4-4. It was a low line drive that just cleared the right field fence. Earlier, he tripled to right on a ball that seemed to baffle right fielder P.J. Hilson.
King now has four home runs in 19 games and is hitting .278/.402/.542. It’s an encouraging start for the Nationals’ 2024 first-round pick. He didn’t hit his fourth home run last season until June 11 and had just four extra-base hits last April.
Jordan Sanchez, OF/1B, Orioles: Sanchez has gotten off to a very slow start at High-A Delmarva, but he started to turn that around Sunday with a 4-for-4 performance, finishing a triple shy of the cycle.
Sanchez entered the game hitting .145. Even after the breakout day, he’s at .197/.239/.364. Contact has been a problem so far, as he has 20 strikeouts in 16 games for a 28% strikeout rate.
Logan Henderson, RHP, Brewers: Henderson was rocked in his lone MLB start this season, but he’s been great back in Triple-A. Henderson struck out nine of the 21 batters he faced Sunday against Charlotte, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over five innings while working a starter’s workload in relief.
Henderson sat 93–95 mph and filled the zone with his fastball, slider and cutter. He generated five whiffs and 12 called strikes, consistently staying a step ahead of hitters.
Henderson is now 2-0 with a 1.02 ERA for Nashville, with 26 strikeouts and nine walks in 17.2 innings.
David Davalillo, RHP, Rangers: Davalillo turned in his best start of the young season Sunday, shutting out Tulsa for six innings.
Davalillo allowed three hits and one walk while striking out 10. He carried a perfect game into the fifth and finished his outing by striking out Josue De Paula, Kyle Nevin and Zyhir Hope in order in the sixth.
Davalillo is now 1-2 with a 2.79 ERA. He has allowed 22 hits in 19.1 innings, but has also issued just six walks while striking out 28.
Cooper Pratt, SS, Brewers: Pratt has struggled to start the season. He didn’t record his first extra-base hit until April 15 and has yet to produce a three-hit game.
But Pratt had his best day of the season on Sunday, going 2-for-4 with his first home run of the year. The 100.3 mph, 395-foot blast easily cleared the left field fence and drove in three runs.
Pratt is now hitting .205/.326/.282. He continues to draw walks at a strong clip (15%), but has just one double, one triple and one home run through 20 games.
Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.
Taitn Gray, 1B, Rays: One of the best athletic testers in the 2025 high school class, Gray was a divisive prospect among front office personnel. Everyone acknowledged the tools that Gray possesses, but many questioned his ability to hit, as there’s an extremely limited track record of Iowa prep performance translating to pro ball right out of the draft.
Gray has so far silenced critics with his impressive performance in the early weeks of the season with Low-A Charleston, hitting .327/.444/.527 with five extra-base hits and more walks than strikeouts over his first dozen games. That production is backed by outstanding under-the-hood data and exit velocity numbers that jump off the page, including a 94 mph average EV. His power is buoyed also by strong underlying plate skills, resulting in a 10% swinging-strike rate and a 25% chase rate.
And with a crowded outfield in Charleston, Gray might be the rare high school first baseman with the ability to climb the defensive spectrum.
He’s one of five prospects who should climb rankings in our next update.
Quick Hits
Prospect news and notes from around baseball…
While his 6.23 ERA is unsightly, Pirates RHP Khristian Curtis continues to miss bats for Double-A Altoona. His 10 strikeouts Sunday tied David Davalillo for the most among Top 30 prospects.
Marlins RHP Karson Milbrandt lowered his Double-A ERA to 1.96 after allowing one run over six innings on Saturday. He had the most whiffs (18) of any Double-A pitcher.
Red Sox RHP Anthony Eyanson might want to start researching things to do in Portland. He has a 0.54 ERA through four starts with High-A Greenville with 27 strikeouts and zero walks over 16.2 innings.
James Tibbs homered again on Sunday. He leads the minors with 11 homers.
