20 Hottest Prospects In Baseball
Plus: Statcast Standouts and 10 prospects who caught our attention in April org reports.
The Baseball America Prospect Report is a free daily morning newsletter. Please consider help spreading the word by forwarding to your friends and helping us grow the BA community!
With the minor leagues off on Monday, here’s our second Hot Sheet of the year ranking the 20 hottest prospects in baseball entering another week of action. This week’s installment considers how minor league players performed through April 12. Contributing BA staffers include J.J. Cooper, Josh Norris, Matt Eddy, Jesús Cano and Ian Cundall.
Please note that the Hot Sheet is not a re-ranking of Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects. Rather, the Hot Sheet simply recognizes how the hottest prospects in the minors performed over the past week.
1. Kade Anderson, LHP, Mariners
Team: Double-A Arkansas (Texas)
Age: 21
Why He’s Here: 1-0, 0.00, 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 11 SO, 0 HR
The Scoop: Before the season, I wrote that Anderson, the third-overall pick in the 2025 draft, had a chance to be the kind of pitcher who comes up toward the end of the season and makes an impact on a pennant race. So far, he’s doing his best to make that prediction look wise. After two turns in the Arkansas rotation, the lefthander has yet to allow a run and has punched out 17 hitters. His latest turn was masterful. Facing Wichita, he spun five hitless frames with 11 strikeouts and just two walks. He got 14 whiffs over the course of the outing, as well. (JN)
2. Theo Gillen, OF, Rays
Team: High-A Bowling Green (South Atlantic)
Age: 20
Why He’s Here: .411/.500/1.176 (7-for-17), 7 R, 1 2B, 4 HR, 8 RBIs, 2 BB, 4 SO, 2 SB
The Scoop: The 20-year-old Gillen is known for his hit tool, but it was his power that was on display this week, as he homered four times in a five-at-bat stretch between Saturday and Sunday. Those four home runs are only one fewer than he had in all of the 2025 season, and Gillen’s underlying data indicates there is more power than he’s shown in his 6-foot-2 frame. If he continues showing more impact ability in 2026 without sacrificing any of his on-base or pure-hitting ability, he could push toward the top 10 of outfield prospects in all of baseball. (IC)
3. Robby Snelling, LHP, Marlins
Team: Triple-A Jacksonville (International)
Age: 22
Why He’s Here: 0-0, 0.00, 1 G, 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 12 SO
The Scoop: The 22-year-old Snelling had some trouble with his control this week, but that didn’t stop him from striking out 12 batters, the second-highest total of his career. He recorded 15 whiffs total on 33 swings (45%) and had at least one on all four of his pitches. He sat in the mid 90s, and his changeup was especially dominating, generating six whiffs on nine swings. Snelling did walk four hitters, however, and threw first-pitch strikes to only 11 of 21 hitters. He’ll need to be more pitch-efficient to reach his potential, but Snelling has only given up four runs total in his first three starts, continuing to build on a strong 2025 season. (IC)
Editor’s Picks
Baseball America Helium Pick Of The Day
Each day, we’ll pick a prospect that has our attention.
Luis Serna, RHP, Yankees: In his first start of the season, Serna went seven innings. In doing so, he matched his output for all of the 2025 season, which spanned four outings at Low-A Tampa. Once one of the system’s rising stars, Serna has pitched just 103 innings over the last four seasons. His changeup was considered the best in the system for multiple seasons, and his first turn of 2026 showed why. He used his signature offering to rack up 10 strikeouts over the seven frames. Five of those Ks were finished with fastballs, which sat around 92 mph and were adeptly dotted down and glove side. Four came on the high-70s changeup, and one came on a mid-70s, top-down curveball. It’s been a long road for Serna, but his 2026 season couldn’t have started on a much better note.
